Blue is the Color of the Red Sky
Blue is the color of this second Sade album. Her music has always been an eclectic mix of light jazz and blues, and in her follow up to the more jazz oriented "Diamond Life" she colored this one with the blues. There are still some fast and rhythmic tunes (The Sweetest Taboo, Maureen) but this one is slower and more thoughtful. From "Mr. Wrong" and "Tar Baby" to "War of the Hearts" we are taken on a journey into the heart, always treacherous as Sade shows.br brHer spicy and rain filled "The Sweetest Taboo" and the fast moving anthem to our youth and friends lost, "Maureen" (a song which still gets a lot of jazz airplay), are placed in just the right sequence to balance out the downbeat "Jezebel" and the absolutely haunting "Fear," a meditative song of a girl in fear for the life of her young Matador, waiting anxiously to see if this will be the night he does not return.pThis one is like a hypnotic trance and a 'must have' in your Sade catalog. It is truly origional and great, a perfect companion to "Diamond Life." Go back and pick up this magnificent work of art. It sounds better than ever and like all Sade's music, is timeless....

Not as good as the first time..
The "difficult" follow-up album to the bestseller "Diamond Life" is a sobering but, nontheless, decent musical experience. Firstly, the trademark jazzy sound and love-longing lyrics are still in good supply. Secondly, there some outstanding tracks to listen to. Unfortunately, the "catchyness" of the first album has been somewhat diluted. brThe outstanding tracks are "Sweetest Taboo" and "Never as good as the first time", both very similar like a part 1 and part 2. They are so mellow, exciting and rhythmic that they glide along effortlessly. Many of the other numbers, although very original, are moody and dark. Its obvious that Sade is presenting a different side to the subject of love (compare with the perkiness of "your love is king"). "Is it a crime" was sang with great emotion at the 1985 "live aid" concert. brStill, its a brave attempt to follow on where she left off. Thankfully, Its no commercial cop-out. As always the musical sound is fabulous. Great musicians and hypnotic, original sounds.

The definitive Sade album - start with this one!
I first listened to this on a personal stereo in the dark of an overnight coach trip to France in 1988 at aged 15 or so..best way to describe this album is that I can remember exactly the first time I listened to it.. romantic, heart tugging,easy listening, dinner music, background music, dance with your partner in the front room music... the album fits a hundred different moods.pIs It A Crime says how most of us MUST have felt at some stage in our lives - there is a touch of melancholy behind what I find a very positive and uplifting album. Sweetest Taboo (remix Shola Ama a couple of years ago)and Never Good As The First Time (this strikes a chord for all) are the other heavyweight tracks with Tar Baby, Fear and another couple drifting you into a peaceful state of mind.. and You're Not The Man applies to both men and women in and out of relationships..brFirst date or 25th Anniversary - you can't beat this album for rekindling a bit of romance - you only need to sway from side to side to enjoy it. pTry this one before more modern Love Deluxe.
