Amazon.co.uk ReviewEven though this violent indie film has "exploitation" stamped all over it--with its gratuitous car chases, shootouts, and anarchistic characters--it is a guilty pleasure. Unfolding in the future--well, at least at the time of its release it was a decade ahead of schedule--this movie shows how US urban schools have deteriorated to the point that gangs run the classroom and the police, scared to even go near these educational wastelands, use hired goons to keep law and order there. (In fact, the US government now has a Department of Educational Defence.) In
Class of 1999, a corporate representative (Stacy Keach), eager to rake in potential billions in government contracts, convinces a Seattle-area school principal (Malcolm McDowell) to test out three lifelike android teachers (including Pam Grier). This technological trio possesses intelligence and superhuman strength, which offer to both educate and discipline the bad apples at school. Unfortunately, the androids quickly move from harsh discipline such as spankings and beatings to murder, and Keach's corporate scumbag convinces McDowell's educator that despite this, the program needs to stay its course. Thus it is up to a newly paroled ex-gang member (Bradley Gregg) and the principal's daughter (Traci Lind) to uncover the teachers' identities and alert students and rival gangs to the impending danger. Despite its formulaic approach and some plot implausibilities, Mark Lester's film is entertaining to watch, especially with such exchanges as this: "So they've been waging war with my students." "Well, isn't that what all teachers do?" --

A High School with Cyborg Teachers and Gang Wars!!!!!!I got this film years ago from a local shop that was having a 5 for £10 sale on all there old rental videos. I was at a point where I wanted to see the B-Movie robot Terminator/Robocop Rip offs. The film opens instantly with a clear Escape from New York rip off computer view of new york telling us how bad the future (1999 lol) is. It is set in a dated 80's future wich I must say I like, the 80's distopia future always works for me (Running man, blade runner etc.). A teenager is released from prison and decides to go straight, his brothers are still with his old gang and they are a bit upset when he doesn't re-join them, his little brother is really annoying and defantly nocks a star off the rating for me. The gang war problems at the school forse the schools to employ cyborg teachers, natuarly they end up going a little too far in keeping the kids in order. Good cheesy fun obviosly doesn't live up to the tagline "First Terminator then Robocop they won't prepare you for..Class of 1999." 7/10 but avoid the dismal sequal doesn't even have a robot in it?

Great B-Rated Sci-Fi Movie And Extremely Rare To Find....i taped this from Cinemax a few years ago and I love it. It's action packed the whole way through, not a whole lot of "blah" like most B-rated sci-fi movies. If you like gang related movies, science fiction, hard music to the likes of Nine Inch Nails (features the song Head Like A Hole), corny punchlines and the thought of how funny it would be to cruise around your high school on a dirtbike, spraying SMG rounds at missile launcher, steel claw, and flamethrower wielding teachers, give it a go. You can probably find an old VHS copy at your local rental store. I know ours does and our town is pathetically small. If this sounds good to you I really recommend it. Blackhearts for life!

Different....I saw this film a few years ago and remember loving the song that is playing during the end credits (who sings that song?!?!). It's basically set in the future (1999?!) and is about a high school in a conflict-ridden town in America where the kids have taken over. Three human-like robots are brought into the school to regain control and all hell breaks loose when they turn against the pupils. The plot isn't worth much but it's okay for a typical 1980's gung-ho 'good-guys against the bad guys' movie.
