Catharsis is Beautiful
A dark, surreal, gritty love-story, revenge tale-cum thriller, it may come across more as a scintillating assault of morbid and cynical imagery but the story, characterisation make it so much more. A beautiful scene in particular is when Dan Futterman's character is speaking to his brutally departed lover in a white-heavenly looking invasion of his own apartment and his boyfriend actually tells him that violent and vicious retribution won't get him back what he wants. So no bitterness then! br / br /And the chests! Agghh! Gay men with hairy chests. Manly men, REAL men. Look away now, all Chippendale, Gucci model lovers and devotees of outdated Athena posters, here is a place-an AMERICAN place where men can be MEN! Well come on! Downtown Manhattan's cold. There's precious little light here for you to get out your waxing strips between pick-ups. What a relief, even it trundles along depressing lines, to find a movie completely at odds with the sickeningly baby-smooth six-packs, over-pumped torsos and vacuous and-yes UNMANLY prettiness that intrudes and infects ALL gay-themed movies today-straight ones too. It's as bad as anorexic chicks-worse as NO ONE criticises it or feels it wrong. Well it is! God, if I want smooth, I'll date a woman for God's sake! Listen to Cameron Diaz, people, and Eva Mendes. It's hairy men, NATURAL MEN, that do it for us, and I'm sick of them becoming extinct on-screen.

A movie with a twist...
Dan Futterman (who I know from 'Judging Amy' and have a slight crush on) and his vulnerable charm take you on quite a tour! br /As I didn't know the ending of the film, I was mystified, appalled, intrigued, moved as it unravelled to its terrible, heart-wrenching conclusion... br /One to watch! br /

Why dont some people like this film?
I would just like to start with saying, a review of a film should be more than an opinion of love or hate, there are a lot of films I have seen that I have hated and a lot I have loved, yet; at the same time, I can usually see qualities which I feel could make people disagree with my opinion and this is true of all films; any film that is liked is as equally hated by someone else and sometimes the telling of why people hate a film could be the same reason why other people might love a film. br /With the above in mind, I loved this film, and maybe what I love about it will make someone else hate it, especially depending on the viewers mood when they watch it. br / br /I bought this film on the strength of a customer review where they explained how it was recommended to them, I had come across this title in exactly the same way and since they stated that they really enjoyed it I figured I would too, yet, this is not a heart warming tale at all, its a much darker almost David Lynch-like tale that tells the story from now and slowly gives us glimpses of how we got here, that said; this film is mostly linear with its forward moving direction, we only get a few 'flash back' or 'imaginary' scenes along with some character interactions where they talk of things in the past, so we as the audience get to think and reflect as the characters do. br / br /I can see why perhaps this not everyone's type of film, at first we see Dan Futterman in his role as Charlie going around getting little snippets of his daily life, with what appears at first no real story, which for some people can be boring to have to watch, but I feel this is a great opportunity the film writers have given us to let us get to know him and make us like him so, by the end of the film we can identify with his character and understand what the story is trying to tell us, but not before we're made to hate him first, we see him going off the rails and behaving like a real nasty bit of work in some places, but if you persevere with this film and just ride with it, by the end of the film you might find that your heart has warmed to the character of Charlie. br / br /Its again one of these films which are probably not for watching over and over as I think, those of you that did not turn it off after a few minutes and saw it through to the end,, will find the repeated re-watching and getting to know Charlie a little tiresome but its at least worth watching twice to catch all the bits that might have been missed first time, and now knowing the ending we can look out for any hidden symbolism as the film runs through again. br / br /I find I have so much to say about this films, but in short; if you have an interest in artistic, thought provoking films and/or an interest in gay cinema, I think this deserves a look. br /If you have only an interest in fast moving action films you will find no car chases or shoot outs here. br / br /

Awful film
I'm usually a big fan of independent and dark alternative films, but this film was awful. I was tempted to turn it off after 15 minuets but i sat thought the whole film hoping it would get better sadly it didn't, if i were you i would save your money and choose another film. br / br /

A VERY VERY GOOD FILM
It is just a film to see - it is noir - mystical and loving br / br /Homophobia very well treated with a noir style br / br /Recommended A LOT !!!! br / br / br /L.
