Amazon.co.uk ReviewFor those still insisting that rock is dead, South's
From Here On In should be the cause for not-inconsiderable confusion. The London trio are the first "indie" band signed to James Lavelle's notoriously hip beats label Mo' Wax, envoys of a new ethic of guitar-stroking, comedown-friendly ambience also practised by the likes of Turin Brakes and Kings Of Convenience. That South are a guitar band isn't to say that they don't occasionally dabble in the traditional hallmarks of the Mo' Wax canon, though; the incidental episodes of "Broken Head" take in dramatic rolls of DJ Shadow-esque drums, fuzzy Money Mark-style keyboard washes and moody orchestral strings torn straight from UNKLE's hymnsheet. Elsewhere, though,
From Here On In makes like a celestial meeting of Nick Drake and the Stone Roses, South's delicate finger-picked melodies launching out into the outer realms of the sprawling space-rock jam. "Everyone/ Will come down in time" promises the harmonised chorus of "I Know What You're Like". Not yet, though;
From Here On In guarantees a 70-minute trip, so strap yourself in and experience rock reborn.

Oh lovely lovelyI bought this album after randomly hearing about South as a chilled out group signed to Mo Wax. Quite honestly I was expecting something like the DJ Shadow Entroducing album. I was very surprised by the un-Mo Wax style of the album but pleasantly surprise. James Lavell has snuck in a few trademark instrumental bits and bobs but other than that it's a much more soulful affair!
Beautiful songs, great lyrics and all in all a lovely bit of music-ness. Paint the Silence is one of the greatest songs I have heard in a very long time.
This CD is a gem.

SPELLBINDING MUST HAVE!!!!!!From a band I didn't know much about at the time really surprises me when I bought the album by chance and after giving it a listen it brought back the good old melodic days of the Manchester music scene because these boys, Joel Cadbury, Jamie MacDonald and Brett Shaw can only bring out the finest what Manchester has to offer in the Millenium.
Tracks like Paint the Silence, Keep Close, (which is used on ITV Football show the Premiership) and the outstanding Southern Climbs goes to show that Manchester is very much still on the map for when it comes to making the finest of the Music that WE all want to hear.
Roll on the next album

What a treat !I don't usually listen to this type of music but when I recently heard it playing in a north london shop I had to buy it. I don't know much about music but I know what I like and I like this album very much.
Your emotions go on a journey with each tune whether it be the spine chilling 'I know what your like' or the uplifting and seemingly well thought out 'broken head' instrumental tracks.
I am on this site now looking for a follow up album. It cant come soon enough for me boys, you have a new fan !

A band you Roses lovers have been waiting for
Released on Mo Wax a label more know to acts such as DJ Shadow, Unkle which all carry a very traditional hip hop feel so this album came as a surprise. This is to me the album that the Stone Roses never made, ok so it doesn't have John Squires guitar skill but does have all the other ingredients, excellent songwriting, the sound of manchester, songs such as Paint the Silence will have you tapping your feet after the first listen. Give these guys a chance, you won't be disappointed
