Editorial reviews
Amazon.co.uk ReviewA sweet, silly and sincere comedy, ISaving Grace/I resembles a Cheech and Chong pothead comedy, only instead of two scruffy lowlifes the film is about an aimless Scottish gardener and a middle-aged widow with a green thumb. Grace (Brenda Blethyn of ISecrets and Lies/I and ILittle Voice/I) has just discovered that her recently deceased husband has left her with an enormous debt when her gardener Matthew (Craig Ferguson, IThe Big Tease/I) asks her to help him tend to his small, personal-use marijuana crop. Grace soon realises that they can turn her greenhouse into a hydroponics laboratory and turn out a profitable crop--if only they can keep the local constables at bay and then find a dealer to sell the stuff. ISaving Grace/I has well-developed characters, intelligent dialogue, a charming and capable cast and clean, clear direction. But at heart it's still a marijuana comedy, with most of its funniest moments coming from the silly, stoned behaviour of elderly ladies and others. Nothing wrong with that, and Blethyn and Ferguson give the film a strong anchor. The ending goes a little over the top, but most of the film is well-grounded in genuine human behaviour. A sub-plot about Matthew's girlfriend's pregnancy is treated with respect and integrity. --IBret Fetzer, Amazon.com/I

I love Grace. I really, really love her. She has wonderful hair... soft and silky like a lovely Angora rabbit. This is up there as one of my favourite films of all time. It was recommended to me by my mum who lent me her copy of the dvd. After watching it I immediately went out and bought myself a copy and watch it on a regular basis, recommending it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

br /It tells the story of Grace, played brilliantly by Brenda Blethyn, her husband has recently committed suicide and left her with no money, Grace then has to find a way to make money to save her home. What follows is an extremely funny film following the exploits of Grace and her gardener as they try to grow enough dope to get her out of trouble. Anyone who has ever had a `smoke', whether they've inhaled or not, will be able to relate to scenes in this film. Craig Ferguson delivers one of the funniest speeches I've heard in a movie and the scene with the two old women in the shop had me rolling on the floor with laughter the first time I saw it.

br /Credit has to be given to Craig Ferguson who wrote and produced this film as well as playing the starring role of Matthew, the dope smoking gardener, he's done a truly wonderful job.

My favurite filmSaving Grace [2000]

br /This is without doubt my favourite DVD. It is a very amusing story without lots of unnecessary vulgarity or swearing just masses of hilarious twists and turns. One of the best scenes has got to be when the man looking for Grace comes into the village shop and meets two elderly ladies accidentally high on cannabis. Warmly recommended!
