Amazon.co.uk Review
D12, the Dirty Dozen, in fact only have six members, each having an alter ego. The six are all Detroit MCs, friends and workmates of long standing, who promised each other years ago that, should one of them make it big, he would return to help out his old buddies. Luckily for Proof, Bizarre, Kon Artis, Swift and Koniva, the word of the sixth member proved to be bond. Marshall Mathers a.k.a. Eminem did strike it big, and has returned. Anyone expecting just a couple of guest appearances from the busy megastar, though, will be surprised. Eminem is all over IDevil's Night/I. He has a heavy writing input, performs throughout and produces eight tracks (four others being produced by Dr Dre), with the results being as crude, contentious, hilarious, stylish and silly as you could want. Taking the visceral comedy of Ice-T's IThe Iceberg/I, the sinister electro mood-music of Wu-Tang Clan, the idiosyncratic vocal deliveries of Digital Underground and adding their own immense lyrical tastelessness, D12 produce a canny mix of many of rap's finest moments. Highlights include "Shit Can Happen", with its Danny Elfman-style bass and an increasingly intense narrative that peaks with a shrieked "We are not playin'!"; "American Psycho", with its sweet piano and super-dramatic vocal; and, of course, there's the already notorious hidden track "Girls", on which Eminem rubbishes Fred Durst and openly threatens the life of DJ Lethal. --IDominic Wills/I

Funny, witty, catchy...brilliant
I bought this album as a teenager and loved it when I first bought it - as the years have gone by, I've moved onto other genres, but I thought I'd put this CD on for the old times sake. br / br /It is still a brilliant album, and that's coming from someone who is no longer a fan of hip hop. Some really catchy songs in there, and some songs downright makes you laugh out loud. 'Ain't Nuttin But Music', 'Purple Pills', 'Fight Music', 'Devil's Night', 'Revelation' and 'Girls' are the best tracks in the album, but there are no real weak songs. br / br /The only downside I can think of is that this album is not as lyrically deep or emotional as Eminem's earlier solo work - but that would be an unfair comparison - I don't think D12 are trying to be deep or emotional here. Overall, a great album.

Love or Hate album
I bought this after D12 world, which was an amazing album, and only on the strength of Purple pills, which is a great song. D12 have got humerous rhymes in this, and that is true in most songs. The rhymes are not deep, as in eminems solo projects. He is easily the best rapper in d12 as, although they can rap, he is easily the most proffesional and witty lyricist. brD12s debut album lives up to expectations, just. If you like your rhymes deep and meaningful, keep clear, if you like to have a laugh while listening to music, buy this without hesitation. A love or hate album, i'm kind of in the middle.

not sure on this one
this lacks consistency. the second disc is superb with these druygs and words are weapons. unfortunately thefirst disc only has a few tracks of merit. s**t on you, fight music and aint nuttin but music being the best of a decideldly weak disc. i've always argued that eminem is better on his own and this proves it. if you can get it cheap do so but dont pay fuill price coz it aint worth it.

How purile?
Listen, I love Rap and the harder the better. But am I the only one missing something here? I'm worried this album signalled the point where rap lost it's way.pThe beats are really weak. There is nothing in the drum lines to hook you. Nothing to tap along to. Just a simple thud, thud, thud, thud.pBut that's not what is most disappointing. The lyrics are just terrible. There is nothing to like or admire in the abilities of these guys. Just song after song of inane one-upmanship on beating up and abusing women etc etc. It's pretty sickening actually, and if you get a kick out of listening to it you most probably need some attention too. Whether it is real of fantasy is of little relevence.pI bought the album on the strength of Fight Music. But no other track compares to it. Don't make the same mistake I did. The only part I found myself returning to is Eminem's tirade on Limp Bizkit, a neat little beat, the usual lyrical flow which astounds, and interest in the content too.pSo horses for courses. If you want genuine involvement with music, steer clear. If you want a shallow laugh - go right ahead. In 10 years this album will be forgotton.
