Track 1 - What Planet Is This?!
Track 2 - Ask DNA
Track 3 - COSMIC DARE (Pretty with a Pistol)
Track 4 - Hamduche
Track 5 - Is it real?
Three vocal tracks and two instrumental tracks. This MAXI-single contains a brilliant mix of styles.
We begin this short adventure with 'What Planet Is This?' which is...how do I say this. FUNKY JAZZ. Yeah. A mix of lots of differents sounds with some shouts in it. This track will make you leap for the sky when the horn section comes in. It's an absolutely essential track for motor way driving. CAUTION: do not attempt to do Spike enabled stunts while listening to this track. Seriously, you'll pop a blood vessel.
The next three tracks are worth mentioning in that they are all rather catchy and good but the real jems in this small CD are the first and last tracks.
'Is It Real' takes the cake as one of the saddest songs in Bebop history. Right up there with 'Blue' and 'Words We Couldn't Say'. You will definately need a hanky for this track. It begins with some soft piano notes and it goes into this sad electronic/piano/clarinet piece with a very Spike soundig man singing. This track is actually so descriptive of the whole Bebop theme you amost burst into tears. It's not included on any other Bebop CD's, not even the limited edition CD box set so get Ask D.N.A just for this song.
The whole set of songs on SEATBELTS ask D.N.A are a great selection, granted that tracks two to four aren't the best in the Bebop world and track 1 does have an extended version on the Knocking On Heaven's Door soundtrack 'Future Blues' this mini soundtrack is worth it for all people just to hear the haunting 'Is It Real?'. The cover art is pretty cool too.
This is a pretty good buy, it's completely a must for any Bebop fan or fan of good music. It's another great team effort from Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts. Regardless of the price this CD is worth it.
