As well as the tightening up of the game engine, which allows the game to run slightly faster, numerous diverting new features have been added. For instance, you can choose not to know lots of information about a player until you've scouted them, you can compare players, the new transfer system has been implemented and heck, you can even issue an ultimatum to the board.
As with most Championship Manager improvements, none of these change the game dramatically, but they do add to the depth and realism that has won the franchise the widespread support it enjoys today. It's still as utterly engrossing as ever, and liable to keep you addicted to your PC for hours at a time. Those who like the football management games devoid of mountains of stats as ever are advised to steer clear.
But for the hundreds of thousands of fans of the series, this is yet another polished, enjoyable new edition of the game, which, after all these years, is still without a quality competitor. Roll on Championship Manager 4. --Simon Brew

But then pre-season ends and you've got a handsome looking squad and tactics meticulously moulded around their strengths. On paper, the Premiership - or the J-League 1 maybe - is pretty much yours already.
Step onto the pitch and your star squad is trounced. By everyone. EVERYONE. Teams two divisions below you knock you out of cups. You drift in and out of the relegation zone in the league. Your keeper gets suspended, three of your four first team strikers are injured. Ominous comments appear in your players' profiles : "Has lost confidence in his manager's ability" "Feels the team has more potential than it is showing" along with the dreaded "Wants to move to a bigger club" and "Feels he made a mistake joining...". All the while th omnipotent Board of Directors announce their disappointment "with the team's performance in the match against..." everyone.
Call me soft, but I really don't see the fun in having a computer-game script bully me. It's just not nice playing a game that itself decides, despite any logic or reason, that you will lose THIS game, and THIS one, maybe you'll draw THIS one to get your hopes up but not to worry, you'll lose THIS one right afterwards too.
If you like games to be entertaining maybe even a little fun, you shouldn't play Champ Manager 01/02.

Championship Manager demands a player who lives, eats and breathes football. You will adore it and find yourself addicted or you will reject it completely. There isn't an in between. You need to understand, inside out everything that happens in and out of your club. An over-large wage bill or the wrong training techniques may send you into managerial decline.
Your transfer activity will determine alot of how well you do. Your £25 million pound striker may score your goals, but your £750k 18 yeart old talent from south america may be the star player of the future. Transfer fees are quite realsitic and clubs around you will not be scared to spend, unlike Total Club where nobody other than you spends?!
This game can reward your effort with a thrilling managerial experience matched by absoloutly nothing.Even the modern day equivilants. Beware though if you go half way to the amount of effort you put in, then the amazing in-depth gaming experience will not be there for you.
I am currently in my 17th season. That means Beckham and Shevchenko have long retired and Fernanado Morientes has just recieved the sack with Toledo. Even with the games made up players i still cannot stop and leave this game. This GAME NEVER LOSES ITS TOUCH. BUY IT NOW or go for the medicre TCM or LMA

Where did the years go!
This game is very addictive if you are into footy manager games. It should come with a warning! I was hooked straight away and I have lost hours, days, weeks, months to this game, even jobs! I just can't stop. I've played a few of the later editions of this game and I can easily rate this as the best. I've been playing Champ Managers since the Amiga versions (which rocked also!). It's easier than the later additions to get into and easier to pick up. You can virtually do what ever you want. The database is huge and ok so the teams wont be as up-to-date as real life but all the famous player of today are in there so build the squads yourself. Highly recommended, it is the easiest version to use.
