Editorial reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review"We wanted a tough album," producer Quincy Jones recalls in a bonus interview on this special edition of
Bad. Though the 1987 blockbuster would appear to be Michael Jackson's most personal statement to date--nine of its 11 cuts were written solely by him--its appeal also rested more on craft than the idiosyncratic art of
Thriller and
Off the Wall. At the same time, most of
Bad has aged well in spite of its digital brittleness and MIDI treatments of gems such as Jimmy Smith's organ solo on the title track. While the third best of his first three Epic solo discs,
Bad carries a lot of what people love about Jackson's music. This disc also benefits from two fine outtakes, the exciting, up-tempo "Streetwalker" and the Carpenters homage "Fly Away". Either could easily have extended the record's run of hit singles.

DescriptionOriginally released in 1987 'Bad' was the third Epic album from Michael Jackson which followed 1979's 'Off The Wall' and 1982's 'Thriller'. Moving away from soul and expanding hissound to incorporate rock and dance elements, 'Bad' managedto spawn five top ten hits including the title track alongside 'Dirty Diana', 'The Way You Make Me Feel', 'Smooth Criminal' and his third solo number one 'I Just Can't Stop LovingYou'.

Okay but....People from my generation are determined by the MJ album they first owned. I had Thriller and that shaped me, definetely giving me an interest in the occult. MY cousin Kyle had this and that shaped his lifelong interest in midi keyboards and touching children.
What happened to the brilliant spoken word intro to "I Just Can't Stop Loving You?"
It went:
"I Just Want To Lay Next To You
For A while
You Look So Beautiful Tonight
Your Eyes Are So Lovely
Your Mouth Is So Sweet
A Lot Of People
Misunderstand Me
That's Because They Don't
Know Me At All
I Just Want To Touch You
And Hold You
I Need You
God I Need You
I Love You So Much"
I realise some of it might have a creepy undercurrent who believe that the child abuse allegations levelled at Michael had some credence, but what about the rest of us?

Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh memories1987... I was 15 and I knew nothing about music, until Bad came along I was known at school as a bit of a bookworm, I loved(And still do)reading. Then my mum gave me some money to go get myself a book but there wasn't any new books out that I hadn't already read so I went to the music section of my local supermarket, the only album I saw that caught my eye was the current number one album...BAD. So I got it on cassette so I could play it on my walkman and from the first song right through to the last I was completely hooked, to say this is the only album I ever listened to for a whole year would be an understatement, I went out and bought Thriller and Off the wall but after a few listens I always ended up missing Bad. This album is a real nostalgia trip for me, it's the first album I went out and bought myself and it's the first album I listened to and absolutely loved.
Michael has released a few more great albums but for me none surpass this one, this is a true eighties classic. I remember being so jealous at the time of the people that owned a CD player(I didn't) because they got leave me alone as a bonus song but it was a great relief when it was released as a single, I got my pocket money and rushed straight out to get it.
This album must be bought by anybody who was a teenager in the eighties, it's a classic and deserves to sell more than Thriller.

Mad to BadBad, well after listening to it from first release and then watching the fall of the artist from grace, I must confess to switching off Michael Jackson for some time. The purchase of this cd and playing it again simply because the price was right in comparison to what I paid first time round I was expecting the same response. What I didn't expect was to be told by my three children that I had bought some real music, they went mad to bad, dancing around moving in time with each track and demanding more and more of that wonderful sound. I must admit I was moved that genius still is appreciated. This is a great album, full of interesting lyrics, great tonal range and complex musical arrangements. Bad perhaps, but great.

Librarian Girl 8/10 Nice slow about a mystical exotic girl
Just Good Friends 6/10 this one is a bit too poppy
Another Part Of Me 10/10 A love this song has a great beat to dance to
Man In The Mirror 11/10 No syntax error in the 11 !
I Just Can't Stop Loving You 10/10 The first feel of the album when released. Too good
