Amazon.co.uk ReviewExpansion Team, as the name suggests, sees Dilated Peoples honing their old school hooks and breaks to ensnare purists and the mainstream alike. Over down-tempo beats, eerie Hitchcock strings ("Clock Work"), dinner jazz ("Pay Attention!"), 70s cop-show horns (Hardhitters) and DJ Babu's turn-table gymnastics ("Dilated Junkies"), their exhausting couplets wage war on the talents of fellow hip hop crews; while simultaneously validating their boasts of rhyme supremacy. Yet it's the instantly addictive slow-roller, "Worst Come to Worst", that best proves their point. Along with the "nobody comes close" taunts, there's a lot of regulation second album material: "Trade Money" assures that success isn't without its downsides ("Since last year I've accumulated more money / on top of that I got a lot of people acting funny"), "Proper Propaganda" has a pop at the media and there are countless reassurances that success doesn't mean principles will be compromised. Their messages may not be new, but the Dilated Peoples' genius is delivering them with simmering tunes that make them worth hearing again. --

ClassicBought this on the after listening to their single on the radio and didnt expect much. But I have to say its one of my favourite CDs. I have introduced this many people I know, even my sister who's fave song is "Barbie Girl" bought this. The best songs are -
Live on Stage
Worst comes worst
Clockwork
Heavy Rotation
Self Defence

I tried SO hardAaaaah - what can I say...
I tried SO hard to like this album, I really did. Individual songs, heard seperately can be stunning (Heavy Rotation, Worst Comes To Worst, Live On Stage etc.). I don't know what it is about these guys though - I just can't ever seem to listen to an entire album!!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that this is a bad album at all. What I am saying is that, in my opinion, there are too many very average tracks on here. Many of them just simply don't stand out enough to catch my attention - it easily fades into background music when you leave it on the stereo, it's not that they're bad, but when I listen to an album for the first time, I like it to MAKE me sit up and listen!!!
It's a shame, because it seems that there are always 3 or 4 of these stunning tracks on each album, but there's just too much filler!! They have the potential and ability occasionally to be BRILLIANT. By all means, buy this album - it's worth it for the stand-out tracks but you might be disappointed with the overall product. Hope this has helped.

If only there were an option for a 0 STAR rating...Furthur to my bashing of DP's debut "effort", The Platform, i would like to point out that there is one Hip Hop album out there that sucks more. This is that album! Still dazed by the utter disgust that washed over me when i heard The Platform, i decided to give DP another shot. In all fairness, "Worst Comes to Worst" is a blinder, and worth buying as a single. Do not be fooled (as I was) into thinking that the rest of the album lives up to it. The beats just get weaker and the rhymes worse... No, no, no!

Expansion TeamThe only reason I got this album was because I heard the song 'Live On Stage' on the PS2 game NBA Street 2, and I thought it was good.
So when I got the album, the first song I played was Live on Stage, and I still like that song because it has a good beat, and although the lyircs differ from those int he game version, I still like that song.
Carrying on with songs I like, there's one more. Yes, just one. Out of 16 tracks, I like two songs. Just so you know, Heavy Rotation is the other song, and that's only really good because it features Tha Liks.
But the rest of the album is boring. Defari is fairly average as a rapper, but all the songs sound fairly similar - repetitive beat, annoying chorus and a few bits of sub-standard rapping. There are very few differences between each track.
This album sits at the bottom of my collection, unused.
