Amazon.co.uk Review
For such a boldly titled and apparently driven attempt to reinstate Michael Jackson at the centre of the pop world, IInvincible/I is a listless thing. Split between scratchy funk workouts and mid-tempo ballads that might have appeared as IBad/I B-sides, the album plays on and on while never seriously promoting dancing or romancing. Its handful of weird moments--the resurrection-by-tape of Biggie Smalls on the bridge of the title track, for instance--are hardly large-scale bizarre like the first disc of IHIStory/I. The title track turns out to be hardly the rampant ego-fest you'd imagine; instead, its subject is a female whom Jackson cheers on. Likewise, the most ear-catching moments of the "comeback" single "You Rock My World" come with Chris Tucker's jivey introduction. Despite a debt to "Payback"-era James Brown, "Rock" floats away like steam midway through. It's almost a relief when the old self-regard turns up: on the growling "Privacy", Jackson rants about muckrakers "stalking" him in search of "the stories you need to bury me", all this long after foundering divas and troubled boy-group members have replaced him on tabloid covers. The man may occasionally break away from the mirror, but he seems unsure about where else to find inspiration. --IRickey Wright/I

The long awaited album that came out in 2001. As a massive MJ fan I didnt know how to take it at first.I could relate to songs like 'the lost children' and 'speechless'. But the rest of the album took some getting into. One thing you can say for sure about this ablum is the more you listen to it the more you like it. There is something very different and very special about this piece of work. It is easy to criticise in comparison to Jacksons previous works. However compared to any other pop, RB album by any other artist this is ultimatly a superior work of art. The songs are empowering and refreshing and Jackkson is still the best pop artist by a thousand leagues. Despite all the horrendous, spiteful critisism that Invincible, History, and Blood on the dance floor have recieved, only one thing remains really true; and that is that, a thousand years fom now Michael Jackson will still be listened to and remembered but nobody will remember the hateful and profoundly ignorant abuse his art work has suffered.

his best since Thriller!!
seriously i have only just purchased the album and i find it to be his most original piece of work since the epic and best album of all time THRILLER. br /Bad and Dangerous were mini masterpieces and Off The Wall is widely influential, but Invincible has something of a raw edge to it and ten years of inspiration to back it up. br /Britney Spears gave us the best selling album of 2001 with the amazing Britney(2001) which is a favourite of mine in itself with only 4 million more than Jackson(15million total) and MJ sold 11 million to date, which shpows how popular he still is giving multi-platinum albums with only three singles released!! br /Invincible is certainly one of the greatest albums this decade and like Britney and Madonna, is the best in his style and genre and no one can compare to him when it comes to pure ballads and funky tunes (unless your name happens to be Janet Jackson). br /here is Michael back at the top of his game despite the nagative press. br /this is one of the greatest produced albums this decade and certainly on par with THRILLER,Bad and Off The Wall. br /10/10

Good but needed pruning!
Okay so when this record came out I actually hyped it up masses.. I think mainly out of loyalty to MJ. This Record though, isn't better than Bad, Thriller, Off The Wall or Dangerous. Thats simply a fact. It isn't nearly as awful as the Journalists will tell you it is though either. br / br /At the time of writing this I'm eagerly anticipating some new material this year, ahead of his live shows in London and so thought I'd re-visit the album again, a while after the dust had settled. br / br /The problem for me with Invincible, which I plea Michael you address for your next offering.. is Quality Control! Whilst some of these tracks might make it on to an Usher record this is a Michael Jackson record! Okay so Dangerous was a creative peak and frankly could have been twice the length and still have no bad tunes but that was then and this is now. Bad, Thriller and Off The Wall were all carefully pruned and put out with no more than 11 tracks on. Hell, Thriller only had 9! br / br /It's about quality not quantity and Jackson records shouldn't have tracks you skip..! I won't say which tracks I'd cut because we'll never agree on which the ones are.. but it should be shorter. Personally I hope the next record is 11 songs or so once more.. By all means record 20/30/40 and put out a special issue or something but Just put the best of the best out for a comeback album! br / br /There are some good highs on here but too often for me it feels like the high points are the songs that are frankly just new versions of his classics. 'Cry' is clearly an attempt at "do something Man in the Mirrory Michael".. Michaels always been at his best when trying to find NEW sounds.. not simply covering his own past. Again, 'You Rock my World' is 'Billie Jean' like in many ways.. 'Unbreakable' offers a 'Jam' like intro.. All this does mean the songs are good and likeable.. but not nearly as exciting as when he stumbles upon a new sound.. Personally I found this "different" quality in 'Whatever Happens'.. br / br /Anyway, this is far too long as it is so I'll conclude. I do think this record is nowhere near as bad as Journalists will tell you. I do think there are too many songs on it of a too similar nature and hope when he returns again that the record be trimmed and pruned until the absolute best of the best tracks only remain. I mean, if Cheater couldn't get on Bad how the hell can Privacy get on Invincible??

A bit of a disappointment....
Okay, it's not as bad as it's harshest critics make it out to be, but then it's nowhere near as good as some of the over-zealous MJ fanatics rate it either. br / br /I'm a lifelong fan and appreciate his music both as a solo artist and with The Jacksons but this album was something of a disappointment. That's not to say it's not without merit, but if you're buying this hoping to hear the same kind of passion Michael delivers on pop classics like Billie Jean or Don't Stop Till You Get Enough or even Who Is It then you're going to be disappointed. br / br /Simply put, the melodies just aren't up to scratch. The opening three cuts are fast and frantic with flashy production from Rodney Jerkins but they all lack the same thing: a catchy hook. Michael Jackson used to be the master of the catchy pop song. I remember when I was a kid and I used to sneak into my brothers room when he was out and play Smooth Criminal on a loop. He's created so many wonderfully melodic pop songs that are so rich with imagery and passion but there's very little of that to be found on Invincible. br / br /There are some moments of relief. Heaven Can Wait is a gentle RB mid-tempo track with wonderful strings, a decent melody and a soaring vocal delivery from Michael. There's also the beautiful ballad Speechless, one of the few tracks written and produced solely by Michael and you can hear his passion shining through. br / br /But these moment are rare and much of the record is padded out with filler material. Some of the tracks sound as if they were written by someone else, presented to Michael, and he just said "okay then" because he couldn't be bothered to write some decent songs himself. br / br /It is not really surprising that Michael stopped making music after this album. He really doesn't sound very inspired anymore and I'd hate to see him tarnish his legacy with mediocre albums like this.
