Amazon.co.uk Review
Ben Stiller originally created the vacuous male model hero of IZoolander/I for the VH1 Fashion Awards. In his big-screen appearance, Stiller's Derek Zoolander is New York's top model and proud creator of the tight-lipped "facial expression" Blue Steel. However, competition comes in the shape of equally empty-headed young buck Hansel (Owen Wilson), who wins the coveted male model of the year award, much to Derek's dismay. When Derek's vapid friends are then incinerated in an unfortunate petrol station incident he is left vulnerable and alone, perfect fodder for fashion designer supremo Mugatu (a brilliantly surreal Will Ferrell) to hatch a plot of IManchurian Candidate/I-sized proportions in which Derek is brainwashed into assassinating the Malaysian Prime minister at a fashion show. Derek enlists the help of investigative journalist (Christine Taylor) and even Hansel himself in an attempt to thwart Mugatu's devious plot. p IZoolander/I works thanks to the central performances. Stiller is endearing in his one-dimensional ineptitude, Wilson is shallow hippie cool personified, and there are some great cameos by the likes of David Duchovny as a Deep Throat-esque informer, Milla Jovovich as the eastern European sadomasochistic henchwoman and Jon Voight as Zoolander's coal mining dad. A constant parade of other celebs pop up throughout playing themselves. Admittedly it's a one-joke film, but there are some classic scenes along the way and at its best IZoolander/I is an entertaining dig at an industry that takes itself far too seriously. p BOn the DVD:/B IZoolander/I comes to DVD in an anamorphic 2.35:1 widescreen presentation that's clear and crisp with strong colours, which perfectly shows off the cartoonish style of the film. The audio is consistently sharp. Extra junkies will find plenty of material: deleted scenes, including an extended "Mine" scene and Winona Ryder trying to pick-up Hansel; amusing outtakes; and a great commentary from Ben Stiller with writers Drake Sather and John Hamburg. Best of all is the original VH1 Fashion Show skits which were the inspiration for the film. --IKristen Bowditch/I

Stiller's Zenith
This is possibly the best Ben Stiller film, the only other decent one is 'Mystery Men'. Surreal humour abounds and Stiller's incessant mugging to the camera and his trademark man/child persona haven't yet become annoying. Owen Wilson is also on fine form and the pair's 'dance-off' refereed by David Bowie is one of the funniest things I've seen in a movie.

What is this? A center for ANTS?
This film is truly amazing. It may only appeal to people with a certain sense of humour, but I must be one of those people as I almost split my sides laughing. I was still randomly saying quotes from Zoolander about a month after I'd seen it! br /As usual, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson make a brilliant partnership; they have a similar sense of humour so you can see that they are really enjoying making the film. br /This may not be the classic, thoughtful and deep film that some people want to see but in my eyes it is the best film I have ever seen, and would be perfect for a fun night in or sleepover.

Stiller's best
Ben Stiller (Meet the parents) stars as Derek Zoolander, a confident but stupid male model who loses his crown to Hansel (Wilson) and decides to take time off to search for something else, only fashion mastermind Mugatu (Ferrell) has his own plans for Derek. br / br /This 2001 comedy directed by Stiller is sharp, funny and bizarre, a very good combination and one of the most delightful surprises of the noughties. br / br /Having portrayed many weird yet wonderful characters in his career, Stiller again dives deep into his best quality, that daft and humorous side that his fans love and he does so in such a way to make the film very enjoyable. Many performances of his have always been fairly repetitive, however with the type of jokes encoded and his direction does it come off and with the support, can we see a true energetic performance. The quality of direction is good, using a variety of shots and techniques to get the weird and wonderful messages across. br / br /Successful support is given by Owen Wilson (Wedding crashers) and Will Ferrell (Blades of Glory) all comedians with a similar style and combining recognized comedy actors justifies the genre and gives a clear message to audience about the life of these characters. br / br /Though the plot is predictable, daft and utterly a bizarre portrayal of what really happens in the fashion industry, you just have to sit back and enjoy it anyway. Too many films these days, particularly comedies, are made with no depth and hardly any funny jokes and predictable written underneath the title, for example The Heartbreak Kid. But sometimes they work, this script is sharp, and actually is funny with physical and other types of humour used to justify the needs of the viewing public, bring back this style of comedy. br / br /There will be shaking of the head moments and turning to look at the wall when one of the clichés appear but for the most part, Zoolander is sharply written, a completely daft yet enjoyable comedy that does work and is perhaps the best performance by Stiller in his long and established career. br / br /8/10

What's not to like?
This is a great fun family film. We watched it again last night and it is still hilarious. br / br /Male supermodels in this film are unrelentingly stupid, but they are also warm hearted and optimistic and that's more important. br / br /Stiller and Wilson are on fine form with great support. David Bowie has a wonderful moment as a judge for a "walk off" - a secret, no holds barred, underground, "fight club" style catwalk battle between supermodels. br / br /It's daft. It makes you laugh out loud and it makes you care about the characters. br / br /No - it's not worthy. No - there's no social relevance. No - it's not realistic, gritty or depressing - but see it anyway! br / br /One quote: br / br /Matilda: (confessing) I became... Bulemic... br / br /(Derek (Stiller) and Hansel (Wilson) both slowly register extreme shock and awe...) br / br /Hansel: (slowly) You mean... you can read minds? br / br /
