Amazon.co.uk Editorial ReviewEven though
Transformers--Generation 2 was released after
Transformers Volume 1, it shouldn’t be confused with
Transformers--Volume 2. Got that? Good, because
Transformers--Generation 2 is a collection that is best left to the completists and die-hard collectors. There’s no denying that the five episodes here ("More Than Meets the Eye Parts One – Three", "SOS Dinobots" and "Heavy Metal War") are all classics. It’s just unfortunate that the versions on offer are from the later Generation 2 series.
See, after the Transformers franchise had all but sunk into obscurity, the toys were relaunched and given a new shot at life as Generation 2. And just as the old toys were given new paint jobs, the old episodes were updated and enhanced by the best technology a relatively low-budget production could buy. What this translates into is lots of annoying computer graphics (called the "Cybernet Space Cube") popping up at random intervals to denote a new scene, or even just a change in camera angle or character perspective. The results would test the limits of even the shortest attention spans. So while Transformers--Generation 2 does collect some of the finest episodes of the Transformers cartoon, telling the origin of the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons and how they came to earth, as well as introducing the popular Dinobots and Constructicons, it’s ultimately a frustrating experience. Fortunately, there are better Transformers DVDs out there. --Robert Burrow

transformers generation 2 1986If you like the transformers original series this is not the DVD for you. It's not well captured in colour or sound and almost all the time the picture is almost surrounded by a computer generated lens, however this a good DVD. It has episodes, "More than meets the eye" parts 1.2.3. "Heavy metal war" and "SOS dinobots", but it has no bonus features.

Good, not greatThis collection of transformer episodes is perhaps a odd choice to release, being 1,2,3,8 and 16 in the original series. The 'cybernet spacecube' enhancements are an unneeded addition to otherwise good stories and annoyingly only serve to break up the episodes into smaller capitions. The release of 'original series no.2' has made this DVD almost defunct as they both share the first 3 episodes, 'more than meets the eye', parts 1,2, and 3. Buy this DVD for curiosity's sake only. Otherwise, stick with the original series releases and keep the story line intact.

Could the computer enhancements BE any more annoyingThese are some great orginal episodes, but are substantually ruined by new fangled computer enhancment, and so called Generation 2. Each episode is basically viewed through a 'Cybertron cube'-somthing like that-which will use crazy special effects to take you to the next scene, with annoying sound effects to boot! The theme tune isnt the original TF theme you would expect either.
The whole DVD is a crazy Generation 2 adaption of, what were, great original episodes. But it is a must for any TF fan such as myself. A true collectors item.

A Curriosity Item OnlySo here we have episodes 1,2,3,8 and 16 of the original Transformers series (now known as Generation 1).
This collection of episodes is labeled "Generation 2" because these are the CGI "enhanced" versions of the episodes used to advertise the Generation 2 toys.
However the CGI enhancments just distract from the episodes. They are viewed through a "Cybernet Spacecube" and the crazy CGI transitions WILL annoy.
I have rated this disc 2 stars because even though you have a great collection of episodes the CGI additions completley ruin them.
These episodes ARE going to be released in there original incarnations. So I would advise all to wait for the release of the "normal" versions.

More than meets the eye
The second release of Transformers cartoons on DVD. It features 15 year old episodes which have been computer enhanced. 12 feet robots battle each other for the supremacy over the earth. It contains, "more than meets the Eye part 1-3" and "the Heavy Metal War", four exellent episodes. "SOS Dinobot" beeing an episode lacking somewhat in plot and animation is not a smudge on this DVD as it is a Collectors Item (in my opinion) and one might just as well split all the bad episodes up on DVDs containing the better ones. This release seems even better than the previous, a must have.
