review by: date: 2009-02-03 rating: an under rated classic I have to admit that i love this film,it has some cheesey acting and some of the effects and make arent great but the film manages to keep you hooked all the way through. For anyone that has read the howling books you may notice that this film is like the third one as they both have a freak show and the main werewolf is a good guy.I think this is a bargain buy it now.
review by: date: 2008-08-27 rating: a self confessed trashy movie fan I have always been a great fan of the awful sequel film, which in a number of occasions can better the original as they can be so much more fun, made on a much smaller budget and throw up acting has-beens who presumable are just in them for the money.this film is a classic on all counts and has possibly been watched by more people than the original and four previous sequels as it hit the bargain bins from day one. It totally satisfies as it does not pretend to be anything other than it is so the ultra creepy performance by Bruce Payne is a bonus as is Antonio Fargas biting off the head of a live chicken! And what other film can boast Penguin Girl and Alligator Boy among the freakish cast and look out for a dynamic performance from a real cat threatened by our hero after transforming into a very dodgy looking pantomime werewolf. Just sit back and enjoy!!
review by: date: 2007-04-05 rating: There should only have been one Howling film! This film had potential but is sadly let down by poor acting, poor screen play and special effects that leave much to be desired for. Brendan Hughes plays Ian, a likeable drifter who wanders into the town of Canton Bluff, in pursuit of a travelling freak show. When he arrives in Canton Bluff he is befriended by a local priest and his daughter who allow him to live with them. But they are unaware that he is a werewolf seeking revenge against the ringmaster of the travelling freak show, a charismatic vampire named Harker, for murdering his family.
br /The back story is great but it is never really expanded upon and the actors do the best they can with the poor screenplay but the special effects are pretty poor. However the make up and secial effects for the vampire is brilliant which is the the main reason main reason I am giving this film two stars.
