A forgotten piece of history
This 1956 movie deserves more recognition. It deals in a realistic and moving manner with the situation of young National Servicemen pitchforked into action aainst fanatical Communists during the Korean War. The courage these young men show when extremely scared and seemingly cut off by the enemy says a lot about the British Army down the ages - not least today, with our troops in action in Afghanistan and Iraq. A friendly fire incident involving US planes adds to the topicality: war is always the same.

Note that although Amazon does not list this on DVD, you may well find an American print by searching Google.

Forgotten War
Understated Korean war actioner that introduced the likes of Robert Shaw (Jaws - his first major role) and Michael Caine (Alfie - his film debut) to the screen. An ensemble British cast (Sir Stanley Baker, Harry Andrews, Michael Medwin et al) hold a strategically significant "mound", despite the best efforts of a determined Korean army division. Good characters, reasonable action sequences, and a real curio for the film buff to see Michael Caine in his first feature film, and Robert Shaw in his fourth. If you can catch this one, do so ...
