The best Supertramp album by far
I totally agree with all the other reviews. This is a superb album. I was fortunate enough to see Supertramp perform this album from start to finish in Bristol back in the 1970's and I was totally blown away! The quality of the songs, the performance and the production is absolutely first class. br /If I had to pick one album from my collection, this would be the number one - and I own well over 300 CD's!

Supertramp at their best
If you "like" Supertramp, you will love this album. Their finest work,in my opinion, although the album does also carry special memories of a love lost for me! Glad I lost her, because it was she for whom I originally bought the album. She dumped me,I listened to the album, forgot all about her,and played the album (good old vinyl in those days!)again and again. Wore it out, bought it on cd,lost or lent it,bought it again!!Do yourselves a favour. You will not regret buying this piece of pure genius!

Very nearly perfect
Until the release of Misplaced Childhood (by Marillion), Supertramp's Crime of The Century was quite simply the best album ever released. Yes, of course, that's a subjective statement... but if you were around in 1974 when the album was released, you'll remember how fresh and different this album sounded then. I would suggest it's a 'listen to in the dark' album. Close your eyes and appreciate the layers of sound in School, Asylum and Rudy, the perfect simplicity of If Everyone Was Listening and Hide in your Shell, and (in danger of sounding like a Save the Whales Eco-Warrior - no offence intended) the still very relevant lyrics of the title track. All in all, a timeless classic album that everyone should have in their collection.

Every music fan should own a copy of this...
OK, I love this album; I first heard it as a 15-year-old in 1975, and played it endlessly - it's THAT album for me. br / br /Those of you who only know the band from Breakfast In America are missing something important. This is one of the most perfectly constructed, played and produced albums of the 70's. Get this, and listen to it. Listen to it again, and then ask yourself: how on earth did they do this on 24 tracks of audio tape, and still get such a clean sound? In the early days of CD, this and Dark Side Of The Moon were about the only rock albums that were used to demo CD players -- and this is a great deal less angst-ridden than Dark Side. br / br /From the opening, unforgettable harmonica solo, to the fading chords of the last track, this is proper music, played for intelligent listeners, and not with the radio or the charts in mind. All the songs are through-composed, all impeccably arranged and played, and that production is astonishing. Listen to the drums on 'If Everyone Was Listening'. Or the Wurlitzer solo on 'School'. Or.. I could go on and on. For the perfect blend of musicianship, accessibility and adherence to exacting standards, it is very, very hard to find anything that could compete with this record. br / br /If I ever get asked to do Desert Island Discs (ha ha) this whole album would be absolutely, no question, top-of-the-list. Pick a song, you say? OK, School. br / br /Go. Don't hesitate. Buy it.
