the peak of Dillinger's carrer, (so far)
Mike Patton + DEP = pure insanity. br / br /There should have been a full length album instead of an EP at this point of Dillingers career.. but nonetheless, this fleeting moment of brilliance is an amazing piece of pure insanity. Mike Patton solves the only problem that I have had with past DEP releases, and that is the repetitive and often annoying vocals. Mike Patton's voice does many things on this, but one thing he doesn't do is get repetitive. The music itself is even a different kind of machine than that of 'Calculating Infinity'. You can hear bits of electronica scattered here and there and that is no doubt Mike Patton in the workings. br / br /Overall this is an unhinged bit of brutality for any fan of heavy music, and an inspiration for the future success of 'Miss Machine'.. Do not pass this up.

Not their best, but could be worse
I thought that the presence of Mike 'look at me, I'm so wacky!!' Patton would ruin this EP, which is probably why I put off buying it for so long. I was glad to be proved wrong when the first track kicked in with the kind of face-melting intensity that made "Calculating Infinity" so special. Tracks 1 and 3 are awesome, but track 2 and track 4, a cover of Aphex Twin's "Come To Daddy", leave a little to be desired. I'd recommend buying this if you're a total DEP obsessive, but if you're looking for a good introduction to this incredible band then you're better off buying "Calculating Infinity" or 2004's "Miss Machine" masterpiece instead.

Weird Good
I'm not a big fan of Dillinger Escape Plan, I like noise they just seem to do a pretty annoying and spectacularly atonal noise to my ears, but if you combine that with Mike Patton's weirdness the results are pretty enjoyable. The tuneless noise compliments Patton's bizarre vocal delivery perfectly, especially When Good Dogs do bad things which is now one of my favourite Mike Patton songs.

Classic collaboration
Following the departure of their original vocalist The Dillinger Escape Plan teamed up with Mike Patton for this blistering EP featuring 3 new songs and 1 cover. While at the time Dimitri Minakakis seemed a perfectly fine vocalist, Mike Patton adds a completely new dimension to the band, making the previous vocals seem rather one-dimensional. Now the lyrics and vocals are as inventive as the music, with Patton alternately screeching, whispering, singing and doing various weird effects and rhythms with the vocal lines. The music is also among the best that the band have ever produced, with immense complicated rhythms and moody non-distorted interludes - the best example of which is the track When Good Dogs Do Bad Things, which must rank as one of the best songs ever written. If there is a slight weak spot here, it's the cover of Come To Daddy which, while not bad, is so comparatively simplistic compared to the other material on this EP (there's really only 1 riff in it repeated over and over again) that it sounds a little pedestrian. Still, as a whole, brilliant essential stuff.

wow
The fact that Aphex Twins Come to Daddy, one of the scariest songs ever recorded is covered here by guys playing live instruments---and their version is just as intense, if not more, than Richard Jamess, should be a sign that this ep is worth picking up for anyone who appreciates intense, angry, music.brBut there are three other songs.brWhen Good Dogs Go Bad is my own personal favorite, with an intensity that matches Come to Daddy. brThe other two songs are more chaotic, but still fascinating, and reward repeated listens....brif youre not familiar with the Dillinger Escape Plan, or dont know what Pattons been doing since Faith No More broke up, this is worth checking out--and if you do, youll already know about, and likely appreciate this incredible collaboration...
