Amazon.co.uk ReviewAs the first group to be released on the Neptunes' Star Trak imprint, Virginia-based rhyme duo and brothers Malice and Pusha T, aka Clipse, have at their disposal the cleverest producers in music today. And they literally exhaust this fine privilege on ILord Willin'/I. There are so many legitimate, danceable club hits on this debut that you're pretty much forced to ignore the CD's lyric shortcomings. The album blasts off with "Grindin'", the street-buzz single of the summer, with its heavy, old-school Run DMC-style drum claps. Similarly, "I'm Not You" flaunts an infectious calypso-pan loop, which makes you pay no heed to the dozens of street-drug verses. The hedonism continues on "Let's Talk About It," with the braggadocio of Jermaine Dupri, and on the catchy, hook-driven "Young Boy". Overall, the beats are ridiculously good, but the emcees are quite average. Unfortunately, no instrumental version was available at time of review. --IDalton Higgins/I

Clipse are warmin up...Its not going to be common for you to hear about clipse over here. you may occasionly see an odd video on tv but they deserve much more hype. With the neptunes very firmly involved in their tunes this album shows alot of promise for futute albums. Some o Pusha T s lyrics are catchy without being revolutionary but its a very good listen which is inspired by virginnia upbringings. When the last time is probly the best tune on the disc but its loaded with consistenely solid beats. Worth a buy without doubt

Not your average Emcees!Reviews for this album mostly pay attention to the Neptunes, overlooking the hidden talents of these two MC's. Although they are no G Rap or Illmatic Nas, they ain't your average rappers. Rhymes do seem to concentrate on the "Culinary Chemist" topics, but they bring a fresh flow with clever metaphors like on Grindin'- I'm the neighbourhood pusher/Call me sub-woofer/Cos I pump bass like that- My grinds about family never been about fame/ Some days I wasn't Able there was always Cane- I move cane like a cripple. pOr the genuine sounding sentiments on the last verse of I'm not you- Rappers are talking as if we in the same boat/ I tell them quick no, I move coke/ And you I dont share no common bonds/ So forgive me if I dont receive you with open arms/ It shames me to know and/To feed poison to those who very could be my Kin/ But when theres demand someone will supply/So I feed them their needs and at the same time cry/Yes it pains me to see them needless/All of them lost souls and I'm their Jesus/Deepest regret and sympathy to the streets/I seen them pay for their fix when their kids couldn't eat/And with this in mind I still didn't quit/And thats how I know I ain't s***/My heart bleeds but that's aside from the fact/That I live for my kids and theirs/ And them young'ens after that.pLyrics I dont expect someone with a name like "Dalton Higgins" to feel.

Golden Virgina, but not bad for your healthMust say when i heard the whole album was produced by the Neptunes i thought it may sound too 'samey' but they've pulled it off! This is a v.impressive debut is one of my favourite albums of the past year. The two rappers mix well, there are sum good collaborations (Jermain Dupri Faith Evans...) and some stand-out tracks. 'When the Last Time' 'Grindin' definately are the gems. This album will grow on you, but is a 'must buy' if u like N.E.R.D, Justin timberlake, Kelis or other Neptunes stuff.

Impressive debut, we want more!Turn on any radio station or any MTV style channel and it won't be too long before you hear the unmistakable beat pattern The Neptunes, and as with all good producers, it isn't too long before the beatsmiths start looking for their own protege's. After a failed attempt with Philly's Most Wanted, The Neptunes have found children worthy of their teaching and beats in Malice and Pusha T, collectively known as Clipse.brLord Willin opens in typical Neptunes fashion, as horns and drums blast through your speakers on "Young Boy" with signature Neptunes all over it, and of course, the unmistakable voice of Pharrell on the hook. Yet the lyrics to this track show that Clipse aren't all about having fun as the beat may suggest, "my momma didn't see it comin, my daddy was there, what's my excuse/ cartoons was the root/ started with Yosemite Sam with the gun in/ palm of his hand what couldn't i demand". And so is the theme for the majority of the album. And on "Virginia", previous Neptunes fans will be surprised at how the Clipse make the Neptunes sound so serious. As a slow bassline ripples through the speakers accompanied by a whispering Pharrell, Malice and Pusha spit hard lyrics, and this theme peaks on the infectous "I'm Not You". As a steel drum loop accompanied by hand claps sets the tone, Jadakiss and Styles help out Malica and Pusha to push their lyrics to the next level, although Jada and Styles are both seasoned vets when it comes to spitting street tales, and so come off as more believable. brBut for those beginning to worry that "Grindin" was leading you into false consciousness, there are plenty of party tracks that still put other producers to shame. On "Cot Damn", the beat is almost identical to "Young Boy", but frankly, it's just too damn funky to complain. "Grindin" still serves to be one of the albums highlights. Pharrell couldn't put it any better when he says, "the world is about hear, something, that it ain't never heard before". The beat which sounds like it's being thumped out on a steel drum is a totally unique sound for hip hop. "When Was the Last Time" carries on in similar vein, Chad and Pharrell again create another contender for beat of the year, and allow the Virginia emcee's to hungrily eat away at it. brOn "Comedy Central", a funky horn loop with a deep bassline create a much more thug-aimed head nodder, but the attention will most probably be deflected away from Malica and Pusha. Fabolous guest appeares on this cut and fits comfortable over the beat and spits witty one liners such as "i don't know where dude's be buying their jewllery/ why your ice cream like it made by Ben Jerry" which seem beyond either of the in-house emcee's. One of the album's clear highlights come on "Gangsta Lean". A summer west coast inspired jam accompanied by the wails of Pharrell mean that thugs in the club, thug in the street, and gangsta on the corner are all catered for. You also feel that Malice and Pusha T finally come into their own on this track, and it sounds as if both know it as their voice rejoice over the track.brMy criticism of the Neptunes has always been that they lacked variation, but, luckily for Clipse, they seem to have found just in time so that "Lord Willin" can be listened to from beginning bar lapses in concetration such as "Ego". But with so much feel good music on one album, who cares, in fact, you might find yourself not caring about a rainy day ever again.
