The organ and arrangements are very similar to those in 'Jerusalem the Golden' and 'Lead, Kindly Light' - the 2nd and 5th CDs respectively. I find his arrangements (especially in the passiontide hymns) delightful, with occasional verses sungs by lower parts (men) only - a surprisingly effective idea. The Choir is splendid - well balanced, precise and sensetive, and enunciation is as good as it gets! Rupert Gough really shows us what Wells Cathedral Organ can do in this album, with a remarkable range of playing - from the penitential and thoughtful 'Lord Jesus, Think on Me' and 'When I survey the Wonderous Cross' to the wild, loud and flamboyant festive favourites 'Ye Choirs of New Jerusalem' and 'Hail the Day that Sees Him Rise'. This is money well spent for any lover of the Anglican hymn tradition.
