Amazon.co.uk Review
When the first Evangelion feature, Death and Rebirth, proved no more satisfying than the last episodes of the original series, Hideaki Anno brought his watershed epic to its conclusion in this final instalment. End of Evangelion begins where the series ended: with the Angels defeated, the sinister cabal SEELE attacks NERV headquarters to seize the Evas and realise their plan for humanity. Misato and Ritsuko fight from inside while Asuka decimates a new Eva series. But when Rei merges with Lilith, and Shinji seems to fuse with Unit 01, the final traces of a coherent story line dissolve into a protracted collage of fantastic images, played against discussions involving Rei, Shinji, Asuka and Kaoru. Anno's dazzling apocalyptic vision forms a weird but oddly logical finale that ultimately can be interpreted to mean whatever the viewer chooses. --Charles Solomon

clears up the confusion a little
I enjoyed Evangelion alot, and in general found the last episodes quite confusing so this helped me get the idea better.
This is how it should have been done originally.

Anthony Gopaul - The End of Evangelion
Evangelion is the first Manga I have seen and found it extremely interesting and different to what I expected.
Without the commentary I would have found the DVD very difficult to understand.
The film does present challenging ideas and thoughts.
It would be good if the series could still continue ?

Darker and nonsensical in places
There have been reviewers previously who noted that End of Evangelion is a lot more adult than the series, in this I'd have to agree. I'm reluctant to go over what has been said previously so I'll keep this short.
The animation is good, an improvement over the series that's for sure. The violence while being an ever presence during the run of the series has been escalated quite considerably with people being gunned down in cold blood and many of the main characters seemingly killed off, it's certainly not something for the kids. Many of the protagonists, such as Shinji and Misato, seem to act not as you'd expect given their established character during the series. Shinji swearing and doing other dubious acts was quite unsettling to watch. End of Evangelion is definately darker than anything that's gone before, this may be be good or bad depending on your point of view.
Some of the plot points that were previously unresolved such as what happened to Rei, Asuka and Gendo are tied up in this movie while other things such as the entire Human Instumentality sequence requires you to suspend a large dose of disbelief. Be warned, this movie takes a large turn for the surreal for the greater part.
All in all, it's quite a finale for one of the more well known anime in the western world.

not all good- just my opinion
most people that have reviewed this have given it amazing reviews but i dont really agree. as a replacement for episodes 25 and 26, i actually prefer them. while the twists of what the last angel is and the role the charecters play is amazing, something isnt right. since when has Shinji sworn? and what he does to Asuka is out of charecter. the charecters of Shinji and Misato are not the same as the series. they have become more manic and darker. it is a good end but doesnt quite fit with the series. i still love the series but prefer episodes 25 and 26 as an ending. but then again i guess with Neon Genesis their is no real ending.

A beautiful way to end the world
This movie ends the series in the most spectacular way ever. You will be sat tense in your seat, shocked and you will even feel sad and puzzled at events. I just feel sorry for the poor Shinji and all the things he goes through.

I won't give anything away but this movie concentrates on the final fate of humanity and the shocking revelations uncovered by Shinji Ikari.

I warn you if you are after a film where everythings happy at the end, e.g. Disney films and even Kill Bill then you will be shocked. It will puzzle you and bring up more questions about the series. This is definetly an intelligent series where the viewer can develop different views of the ending.

With beautiful animation, beautiful music to accompany tense battle scenes, and incredible character emotions it is well recommended for any fan of great animation.

I don't reecomend this for kids though as it features some violent scenes, scenes of sexual nature and swearing. I also reccomend people watching death and rebirth first before purchasing this or buying the boxset with them all in.

Overall: Neon Genesis ranks upon the greatest animation of all time for not been afraid to express opinions on relgion and death. You will no doubt develop your own opinions on the series.
