KidSpeak Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Hebrew is a double CD-ROM with six language programs. It's fun and easy to use and will help multi-lingual children practise different languages through a range of games, songs and puzzles.

These are immersion programs, so all the instructions are in the chosen language. Younger children who are not so confident with the basics of the language may need adult support. More confident children will quickly pick up what they are expected to do and will be able to work independently through the games. There is a very useful help option that explains in English the choice of games, in case any parents are defeated while helping their children.

The programs feature a range of games and songs to help consolidate vocabulary. Most of the games can be played at three different levels of difficulty. The games include activities such as identifying fruit, colouring fruit, pairs games with pictures and words, identifying animals, ordering pictures, setting given times on clocks, putting objects in a backpack etc. A wide range of vocabulary is consolidated such as numbers, the alphabet, animals, objects, times, colours, fruits and vegetables, the weather, transport and leisure activities. There is also a very useful illustrated audio-dictionary. A set of online activities, which can be printed out, will also help to consolidate what children have learned.

The Japanese part of the program is less well animated and there are only four games to play and a song to listen to, whereas the other languages have five different modules each containing games to play and a song to listen to.

KidSpeak Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Hebrew would be very useful for any child aged 5–12 years who is multi-lingual or learning a range of languages. Parents who want to work with their child could also use it. The games, songs and puzzles would help to consolidate a wide range of vocabulary in a simple and fun way. --Amanda York

Age-appropriate and affordable.
My five year old was begging to learn Spanish (because Dora the Explorer and her cousin Diego speak it), but he didn't want a tutor, he wanted to learn from a computer disk. Muzzy looks great, but it's well outside our budget at the moment. Then I found the KidSpeak 6 in 1 disk set. He's taking it slowly, learning at his own pace. He really enjoys the music, but also loves the clocks, animals, and other games. I know some Spanish words, but I don't really speak Spanish. That turns out to be enough to get him through the parts he has trouble with. It's quite a relief to find something age appropriate and affordable. I think he'll be using this one for several years. He doesn't use the reading parts yet because he doesn't read, so this is a great way to train his ears. And because it was included in the bundle, he's now interested in learning Japanese as well.

You need some Spanish somewhere
My 7 year old was totally frustrated by the immersion thing, since neither of us knew any Spanish to start with. However, once I had learnt a bit to help her through she enjoyed the games, but I'm not sure that she's learnt anything from it. I wish there was a written translation for some of the repeated instructions, as I still have no idea what is being said.

KidSpeak 6 In 1 is excellent!
KidSpeak 6 In 1 is so easy to use! It's simple design means that even my 3 year old can use it and enjoys the songs feature, whilst my 8 and 10 year old like practicing what they've learnt. They all enjoy switching between all 6 languages, which keeps them entertained for longer. It's great value all around.
