Amazon.co.uk Review
After a government-spawned "superflu" wipes out more than 90 per cent of the earth's population, the devastated survivors must decide whether to support or resist the advances of a mysterious stranger from way down South (heh-heh) who wishes to claim this new world order for himself. Although the six-hour length of iThe Stand/i makes it nigh-impossible to digest in one sitting, this well-paced adaptation of Stephen King's apocalyptic magnum opus ranks among the best adaptations of the author's work, with strong performances from Gary Sinise, Miguel Ferrer, and especially Jamey Sheridan as a good-old-boy version of Old Scratch. The opening scene, set to the strains of Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper," is one of the most chilling things ever shot for television. Director Mick Garris is no stranger to King's world, having also helmed iSleepwalkers/i, the recent television remake of iThe Shining/i, and the upcoming iDesperation/i. i--Andrew Wright/i

Good version of a flawed book (spoilers)
Stephen King's "The Stand" is a long, but well written and absorbing, read. However, it does have flaws - unsympathetic hero and heroine, jerky story development, some unnecessary characters, and way too many soap opera moments. br / br /The TV miniseries succeeds in tidying up some of this - merging some characters, removing a couple of others completely, and omitting some superfluous scenes. But other flaws remain and the producers add some of their own, including a conclusion that drips with sentimental goo. br / br /Those moans aside, I did enjoy this. It is well cast and the first two episodes in particular succeed in conveying the horror of the situation very well indeed. The music is good and interesting too. br / br /The four stars I've awarded are perhaps a bit generous, but three would be too few. So, let's say three-and-a-half!

Fantastic
I stumbled across the movie when one of my ex-housemates left her copy when she moved out. I sat down to watch the video version one afternoon and couldn't believe how amazing the film is! The casting was brilliant with a young Gary Sinse as Stu Redman and the rest of the cast fit the characters brilliantly. A big mention has to go to the actor playing trashcan man, BRILLIANT. br / br /The story adn the way the film portrays it makes me glad that it was never a big budget production as i fell it would have lost something.

decent enough film
I bought this as i loved the book so much but was a little disappointed with the film version, but i know that always happens when books become films! very strange mixture of cast with some quite bad acting in some parts. Although the delivery of this product was quick.

awesome
I may be slightly biased (this is the first horror type thing I ever saw, and basically got me into horror in the first place) but this is just great that is pretty much all I have to say about it

Very basic
This was alright and killed a lot of hours but it's very basically made, it must have had a cheap budget. Lots of the good bits in the book are left out, but having said that, it was just as good as many other films in this genre. Maybe if i hadn't read the book just beforehand I would have got more from it?
