One of Diru's best!
Next to 'GAUZE', 'VULGAR' has to be Dir en grey's best album by far! My favourite tracks on the album have to be 'Increase Blue' because of its catchy upbeat tune, 'Obscure' because, well.. bluntly its just dam cool! With an incredible PV to match, 'R To The Core' - short and sweet! and 'Child Prey' also because of its catchy and upbeat tune. In all this is the Dir en grey that i know and love, forget 'MARROW OF A BONE' this is the album you need!
One last thing, if your a new Dir en grey fan this album along with 'GAUZE' should be the first 2 you get!

Dir en grey's dividing album
Vulgar was definitely a fan splitter of fans that liked just old dir en grey and fans that liked new and old dir en grey (old dir en grey being visual kei style)

I myself like both old and new diru, ranging from filth to ryoujoku no ame

This album has to be my favorite dir en grey album of all time, It opens up with an awesome "audience killer loop" which has the best singing and back ground guitar you will have ever heard. This is one of the bands more thought provoking and feeling songs. Vulgar contains many of these like amber and kasumi. But also ranges to the more destuctive and heavy songs like obscure and child prey. Each one of these songs has a message which has been cleverly thought out by diru themselves the IIId empire being about imperialism.

I have to say this album is damn good anybody who says otherwise is just somebody who hates dir en grey because they don't speak English. This album is great for anyone who is new to dir en grey and for people who just like metal and rock and/or jrock.

Some people say its impossible for them to become committed to a band cult but after you have listened to this album you will want to buy every album they have made and rely on the bands music to help you through a lot of situations in your life.

Audience KILLER LOOP!
I've waited so long for the UK release of some decent jrock and in Vulgar by Dir en grey my prayers have been answered. The opening track, Audience Killer Loop, devastates in its beauty and despair whilst tracks like Kasumi & Drain Away pump the listener with sorrow and wistfulness. Obscure and Child Prey are fan favourites highlighting what exactly makes Dir en grey so popular. Obscure shows the listener an obscured view of humanity, horrible and angry whilst Child Prey whilst dark in subject matter, is by contrast a fist pumping anthem for the incoming invasion of Japanese bands. There are many good and unique tracks on the album and i recommend this to anyone with a curiosity, a longing or an obsession for brilliant music.

OBSCURED
I became a fan of DEG because of this album and the song that caught my attention was OBSCURE'S video,at first I laughed at the the video because I thought the CG was rather weak but the song, was still very good.VULGAR is DEG's best album. All the tracks on this album are good and the really great one's are audience killer loop,The iiiD empire, shokubeni, sajou no uta,red...[em],drain away, obscure and amber.THE best song being the iiid empire. If you want an album that is hard and mainstream at the same time with lyrics you either undestand or don't then VULGAR is for you.

Beautifully Sadistic...
This edition comes with English translations so you can sing along with the carniage!!! What can i say? OK, its Dir en Grey at their best, but not their most original...A lot of the tracks on this album are reminisent of tracks from older albums, but its hard to stay original when you've been around for as long as these guys. Its a hard core rock album. Another band obssessed with suicide, apparently "suicide is the proof of life", although i wouldn't read too far into that, its just an act that they put on. How can you take five men in dresses totally seriously? This band were visual kei at its best, until they decided to try and conquer America and toned their act down. Now they look just like any other American rock band, and are currently touring there. Their sound is gradually becoming more American too and less experimental. This album features a lot of rap/rock songs, and not nearly enough sorrowful, beautiful rock songs that we are used to hearing from these guys, like Ain't Afraid to Die. The closest thing on this album to that type of song is Red[em].. Audience Killer Loop also has an eerie beauty to it. My favourite track from this album is proably Obscure, although tracks like Marmalade Chainsaw and Drain Away also incorporate the trademark sound that you are used to hearing from these guys. When i heard this album for the first time i was initially drawn to New Age Culture for some reason, although its definately not anthing to scream about lyrically, it does have a strange, twisted catchiness to it that you can't help but nod your head at.

Stand out lyrics are "Will only believers be led to salvation? That's stupid. Why can't we all be perfect, why can't it be?" Red [em]... "How many secret hangings of the premature baby tonight underneath the blood moon?" Obscure.

Tracklisting - Audience Killer Loop, The 3D Empire, Increase Blue, Shokubeni, Sajou no Uta, Rem[em]...,
asunaki koufuku, koenaki asu, Marmalade Chainsaw, Kasumi, A To The Core, Drain Away, New Age Culture, Obscure, Child Prey, Amber.
