Many fans feared that after sampling the solo life with the likes of Transplants and Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards that the members of Rancid would never regroup for Indestructible, their sixth studio outing. After getting over the initial shock of the "sell-out" connection with WEA, most fans will be glad they did. Where the band's eponymously titled 2000 album saw them attempting to recapture the moral high ground by aping the straight-ahead hardcore sound of the early 1980s, Indestructible is a return to the eclectic mix of their own breakthrough album And Out Come the Wolves. Thus "Red Hot Moon" and "Memphis" are melancholy, Clash-marked ragga-grooves, "Arrested in Shanghai" and "Back Up Against the Wall" are melodic pop-rock, while "Out of Control" and "Born Frustrated" are screaming punk assaults. Their politics, naturally, remain sound, as evinced by "Ivory Coast" and the anti-violence anthem "Spirit of 87". If there's one surprise, it's that Tim Armstrong so dominates proceedings. Then again, having been recently rocked by the death of his hero Joe Strummer, then split from his wife halfway through the writing/recording process (the break-up is covered in "Tropical London"), it's certain he had plenty of subject material. --Dominic Wills

Much Respect
I gotta say i think its taken me at least 3 years to finally get into this album but now i have you start to realise what its actually all about and to Rancid i give my respect.

This album is for the people they have grown up with through life and a tribute to alotta people. The opening track as you all know goes out to the living legend joe strummer (R.I.P). As for the others you gotta listen to the words to be able to realise the true greatness of this album Red Hot Moon, Tropical London, Fall Back Down, Otherside another great track dedicated to Lars brother Robert. To me this is an all inspiring album because you know theres alotta feeling gone in to it all great backing vocals and some awesome guitar riffs.

In my opinion this was a tribute to all the people that have given rancid much support through thier long rein off punk rock and if your a huge rancid fan i do insist you buy this and give it a chance coz i think its a great album.

like a best of.... but with new songs.
...of all the albums they have, this combines the best bits of each. its not got as much speed and crazyness as rancid 2000, nowhere near as much ska as life wont wait and a way more polished sound than rancid and lets go. but best of all its got waaaay better sing along chorus' than out come the wolves... seriously, i love this album so much. two drawbacks would be 'out of control and roadblock' ...there good, but seem out of place compared to every other epic song on this masterpiece.
3 years or so this came out and i still listen to it constantly... it actually disgusts me that only a handfull of bands have matched this feat.

It's Rancid but....
It Gets five stars cus its rancid, and anything that tim, lars, matt and brett touch will always turn to gold.

That being said it most definetly isn't "And out come the Wolves"

Buy this album only if you own all of Rancid's other albums, as it's their weakest. Also check out their BYO Split with NoFX and Lars' two solo albums! And check them out when they finally tour over here again!

Can do better
First up, this is not a bad album - in fact, it is a good album. The problem with that is that Rancid do not do good albums, at least not until this stage of their career. It feels like after the aural onslaught of the previous offering, the band have tried to repeat the success of And Out Come the Wolves by recording a straight follow-up. This means we get what is undoubtedly a more accessible punk and ska-punk sound, but far from the band's finest work. Dedicated fans will want to own this for the sake of completeness, but newcomers or those with a more casual interest would be better advised to check out one of their previous offerings - And Out Come the Wolves for beginners, Life Won't Wait for ska-heads or Rancid 2001 for those who like it a bit more hardcore. A new LP is in the making for next year and will hopefully be an improvement - after all, NOFX bounced back from the weak Pump Up the Valuum in some style, so there is no reason why Rancid should not do likewise.

great album!
Well if you are interested in expanding your music collection, and interested in punk, Rancid are the way to go. They are most definetly punk, to any doubts out there, but this album is more mainstream (still punk) and will appeal to a wider audience. If you are a rocker or even into indy, this could still appeal to you. For all you punks out there, this is a great addition for your collection, and includes many catchy songs and riffs.

A must buy for anybody who wants to dwell within other music genres or anybody who's punk!
