Surprisingly really enjoyed this!
Maybe it's just me and my weird thoughts but when I saw the cover of this I expected an ok film with no depth (well it's the hat!) but anyway, I was happily proven wrong. br / br /The two main characters really pull you into this. They are both really likable and even when all goes wrong for Alan, you can't but feel for him as well as Tommy. I had to say I was at this point working out all ways they could sort out the problem - which to me is a good film if you're trying to work out how you can stop them from splitting and believe me in my sad little world, I was really trying to make it better for them!! br / br /The news reel of the time was a very good way to show the passing of time and events of the time. It was a good way to set the background of what Tommy was fighting for and then in the 80's what Alan got involved in. It meant the issues were there but the love story could carry on, with this information in your mind. br / br /The film has great subtle humour. Larry Sullivan (Alan) I thought was excellent (so ok may have a little crush going on here!) actually, taking away the crush, both actors were excellent. The supporting characters, especially Selina and Alan's mum were really well played. The script moves along nicely without the OTT, just sweet and subtle, funny and very sad. I did cry - but then that's me! So for those of you like me, have tissues at the ready. br / br /This film really really surprised me. It had the depth and it had the really sweet love that I love! I like the fact we saw Alan progress from his awkward self to the sort of bloke who stands up for what he thinks. The airport scene I thought portrayed this really well. The attack on the eye shadow was the best! br / br /This was one of these films that as I said earlier, I thought about a lot. My normal irk with love stories that wasted years when people should be together. I think Alan really rubbed this in for me with his 'never had a chance to tell you how much i love you'. I would've loved a happy ending but me being very soppy, did love the love that was portrayed, without it feeling false or stuffed down your throat. The final scene was a good way I think to end the film after the very sad bit. I get a bit fed up with gay films that end with doom and gloom and death, like that's all you can expect if gay and although this does follow this line, I didn't feel the annoyance I do from some of those films. I think this film has real heart. br / br /See this film if you can. It's well worth your pennies.

Simply a great film
I got a loan of this movie and I wasn't expecting much but I was very suprised with what I saw. A touching and sensitive drama with a solid story and some great performances, the two leads are excellent and get strong support from the suppoting cast including Ray Baker, Art Hindle and Jill St John. The stroy follows 2 young men in 1973 one an openly gay and anti Nixon supporter, and the other a republican journalist, they meet at a party and then soon become more and break up because of a novel the latter had written. It then follows them through to 1984 when they meet up again and fall for each other once again. A great movie with an excellent soundtrack to be recommended.

Okay movie but not as good as the other reviews say
The story is okay, but the acting from the dark haired guy is poor. The blond one acts okay. Also the acting of some of the supporting actors is over the top and poor at certain times.

Really enjoyable
I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It is generally feel-good but I did find myself welling up a couple of times. The leads are good looking, good actors and the supporting cast funny and great to watch. Definitely recommended to those who like an enjoyable gay film with attractive cast, some laughs and some sadness rather than a lot of violence and doom and gloom! (Some of the 70's wigs are a bit scary though!). You'll really enjoy this film!

One Heck of a Trip ...
I absolutely loved this movie. Following the lives of two young men in the seventies - both completely different - falling in love. One man is an out-and-proud gay activist. The other is a conservative republican trying to find his way out of the closet. Spanning over a decade, the story follows the relationship between Tommy and Alan. At times the story is comical, at times heartbreaking. Truly worth a look - a gay film with plenty of heart.
