Essential Vangelis
I shouldn't say that I'm an avid fan of Vangelis. Rather, that my introduction to him at quite a young age, with Chariots of Fire, impressed me hugely and, much like Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requiem, provided me with enjoyment wholly independent of its actual purpose - as a compliment to the film. The music captured my imagination and allowed it to run wild, and that kind of stuff always intrigues me. Otherwise, I have remained merely curious about the products of Vangelis over the last four or five years. Buying this compilation was an experiment of sorts. But in bulk, I must say I find his style a bit monotonous, his medium somewhat bland and his lack of classical training, too quickly, obvious, which in his case, doesn't redeem his evident skill as a tune-master. I recommend the full, original recording of Chariots of Fire, although if you are a fan - an "avid" fan, as I am not - this will probably be a comfortable sweep of Vangelis' carreer for you.

Vangelis Odyssey
Disappointing, compared with my old cassette tape the sound seems to have been over worked and has less sharpness of melody

The best way to sample vangelis
I have four musicians that I look out for Mike Oldfield Vangelis br /J.M.J and terry Oldfield br / br /Vangelis comes a quality second and In my view compilations are br /the best way to listen to Vangelis . br / br /The reason being that he can make some really good music but in br /the full albums that I have bought I have not been totally pleased, br /do not get me wrong there is some brilliant music on all the albums br /I own of Vangelis but also some dull music as well. br / br /This one has the best from a collection of his work and it shows br /his versatility and different styles he has It may even prompt you br /to check out some of the albums that the music has been taken from I br /have and bought albums because of tracks on this album. br / br /There are two tracks that are ordinary for Vangelis track nine br /theme from Cavafy and track eighteen State of Independence. br / br /The rest are a good indication of Vangelis. br / br /Celtic Dawn is a new one for me it's a good little catchy tune and br /I look forward to it coming up when I play the c.d.. br / br / br /Conquest of Paradise is the reason I bought this c.d. I first br /heard it at a rugby match (played wen the home team came onto the pitch) and searched for it High br /and low then found it on this c.d. I have now bought the sound track. br / br / br /Apart from track nine and eighteen this is a very good buy and a br /very good indication of Vangelis and his diversity in music. br / br / br /Buy this get your headphones on and drift away in your own little br /world for about seventy minuets (total chill out)

Better than expected
I only realy brought this album for one tune 'chariots of fire' but after listening to it all the way through its a great stress busting album its a album that just chills you out from the first to the last track. Its a album you can put on put your feet up to and not have a care in the world ideal for all those stress heads out there who i happen to be amoung its a must buy.

An excellent collection
I'm very fond of this album, I've had it for a few years now. I find the best time to listen to this album is during momments of stress. For me this is a welcome antidote. Very relaxing and calming. I like the combination of songs, classic tracks and new ones. An overall good ablum, highly recomended to anyone who often needs time to relax.
