Binding : Audio CDEAN : 0800867102806Label : Battle AxeManufacturer : Battle AxePublisher : Battle AxeRelease date : 2003-11-24Title : HeavyFormat : ArrayStudio : Battle AxeNumber of discs : 2 I heard of Swollen Members through the 'one big trip' lp and I decided to give them a try cos I liked their style -different; but good. Bad dreams was swell. Okay, swell really is the wrong word. It was real good, but the whole thing came off a bit too dark at first what with the entire lp revolving around the concept of nightmares (thus its title), but I still rated it.brI bought heavy just past last week and honestly, I think on my mac and ipod combined I must have rocked this album about 30 or more times. -It just seems to fit in perfectly with anything Im doing!brThis album is much more energetic than previous albums and it had me thinking at first that perhaps they were selling out to the mainstream, but since then I've changed my mind completely. Instead I just think of it as one hell of an album which anyone can really appreciate.brAs I said, at first I was concerned that it was a bit too pop. This is based purely on the nature of the beats, not the lyrical content. The lyrics are generally fairly unpredictable but then they're not going to leave you thinking about much since this album tends to lean more on the idea of having a good time rather than trying to get a message across (no bad thing in that now) and I must say that Moka Only really is on top form for this album. He features as an extra in most of the tracks, but hands down to him, he steals it in afew places. He really is more talented than people give him credit for. His lyrics down to his rythm are tight. Madchild also shows his worth on this album as his rythm has really improved too. In my opinion I find him more entertaining than the eminem of late (I realise they are totally different in style, but Madchild's rhyth, is hectic!). Finally Prevail, who struggles to really gel with the music in this lp, is still just as good as before, but his timing on these tracks is generally the same is it has been in the past. He hasnt stretched himself enough, but he's still damn good, and the records just wouldnt sound right if he wasnt there.brOverall I give this lp 5 bumps. It comprises energetic hip hop with tight emceeing (though not great lyrical content) and the production is the icing on the cake; that is flawless.
Swollen provide the phat beats in their new album Heavy. Tracks like 'Paranoia' and 'Adrenaline' are two examples of what swollen can create, and do it over over again.pI own all previous album (Balance, Bad Dreams, Monsters in the closet) and i listen to every album over over as the lyrics and beat make the scene set for hip hop.
