This album sounds like a twisted neo-classical journey across history. Even though it's a soundtrack (to the film of the same name, which unfortunately isn't availible through Amazon), it stands alone perfectly, a testament to Ulver's ever shifting approach to music.brThe album starts with the sombre "Preface", which combines this album's trademark ethereal sound with militaristic drumming. "Ante Andante" heralds back to Ulver's A Quick Fix Of Melancholy, whilst "Rock Massif Pts. 1 2" are reminiscient of their dirty techno phase, whilst keeping in with the feel of this album. More classical vibes from "Waltz of King Karl", and finally back to experimental electronica with "Wheel of Conclusion".brAlthough this album is distinctly Ulver, they have again managed to produce something that sounds completely different. Better yet, it's brilliant.
