Amazing first metal band i got into and never stopped liking 'em.I didnt know dragonforce were popular on amazon everyone hates dragonforce where i live it's annoying. I love dragonforce i have all 3 off their albums. This is different to Valley Of The Damned both brilliant every song is brilliant (well i'm not too keen on Dawn Over a New world still ok) the rest are fast heavy with amazing solos. The album Opener would probably be the best and Soldier Of The Wasteland my god that is feaking amazing 9 minutes it's a masterpiece. If you're only getting into Dragonforce this is a great start. Dragonforce are a wicked band. Must be heard by everyone.

Spectacular Extreme Power Metal, from DragonForceThis album is the best example of DragonForce's bombastic sound. With superb, soaring vocals from ZP Theart, and the trademark twin guitar sound of shredmasters supreme Herman Li and Sam Totman, along with the debut of ex-Bal Sagoth drummer, Dave McKintosh, who's contribution ensures that each song is thunderous, a 'Sonic Firestorm.'
br /However, the good things about this album eclipse the bad; the guitarwork is extraordinary; many an extraordinarily fast solo graces this album, along with genius twin guitar melodies. Vocals are amazing, and keyboardist Vadim also makes an illustrious debut with many skillfull neo-classical solos. The drumming mostly consists of the blastbeats normally confined to the Extreme Metal genre, however here they add a speed and energy that was previously missing.
br /One issue that has been encountered on the first few listens of the album is that the songs seem to merge all into one, however, after many listens each song discovers and individual identity. Some might find the excess of cheese to be distasteful, however those who are used to the Power Metal genre will see this as a advantage. For a band who hav a reputation for being trivial in there impressions, the album is amazingly good.
br /Some consider the lyrics to be cliched and cheesy, however I have come to appreciate them, talking of matters of fantasy.

br /Song Reviews:
br /
br /1) My Spirit Will Go On - A storming opener, with an acoustic opening merging into a speedy melody. The chorus is catchy and addictive, two words which shall be used frequently throughtout this review. The solo section features what i believe to be Sam Totmans best solo on the whole album, with also a great performance from Herman.

br /
br /2) Fury of the Storm - With an intricate opening twin guitar melody, melding into a fast start. The song does what the title says, essentially pervading the spirit of a Storm. ZP performance is less good then the track before. The solo section is probaly one of the most complicated on the whole album, with solos weaving in and out of each other with ease.
br /9.5 out of 10
br /
br /3)Fields of Despair - One of the more mediocore tracks on the album, infused with melody and emotional weight. Great chorus, and ZP performs very well. However, not the best track on the album

br /4) Dawn of a New World - Not the best DragonForce ballad, which is the closing song to the new album, Trail of Broken Hearts. I think it strange to have a ballad so early in the album, however it is enjoyable and strikes a chord, with addictive vocal melodies. The solos are awesome and shows that Herman and Sam are adept at melodic stuff as well as shred.

br /
br /5) Above the Winter Moonlight - In my opinion, one of the most underated songs on the album, an epic. Opens with a keyboard intro, blossoming atmospherically until settling into the usual thunderous guitars. Its ridiculouslly upbeat, with an addictive chorus and verse. The solo section starts off normally, then breaks down (not as in one of those pathetic 'breakdown' things you get in that banal american genre 'hardcore') into a slower section, with a few beautfiul solos.
br /9.5 out of 10
br /
br /6) Soldiers of the Wasteland - The greatest song on the album, a 9 minute epic. Some would consider it cheesy, but those True at Heart and of Metal will love it. Too long to bother summarising, however suffice to say with many different sections.
br /10 out of 10
br /
br /7) Prepare for War - One of the less good songs on the album, though it has some very good guitar work on it, with the uniting shout of "Prepare for War!" its most notable feature.
br /7.75 out of 10
br /
br /8) Once in a Lifetime - An ideal album closer, epic, positive and upbeat, summing up DragonForce's unique sound in one song. All the trademarks are there; thundering drums and shredding guitars along with high melodic vocals. However, part of the solo section reminds me of anothe DF solo, but despite this a great song.

undeniably brilliantThis is one amazing album.

br /I love this album to pieces, the guitar work is so fast it's almost scary. As with all their songs the guitarist, Herman Li, does not dissapoint. Every song, from My Spirit Will Go On, all the way through to Once in a Lifetime, are all fantastic, theres just no other way to describe. The melodic and peaceful Dawn Over a New World is a nice break from the incredible speed and power of the other songs, overall, it's my personal favourite of Dragonforce's albums.
br /
br /My only dissapointment is the version. I got the Japanese version, which was the only version to have the song Cry of the Brave on it, which is possibly the best song of theirs I have heard. I am sure that somewhere like I-Tunes could probably provide a download for this song though, which I would definitely recommend.
br /
br /One of my favorite bands, as it's something a little out of the ordinary, not your everyday average band. Recommended to anyone who likes speed/power metal.

Awsome and movingGet this album, its quite superb. The music is uplifting, melodic, rythmic and quite exceptional. Just listen to the trio of tracks 4-6 for a dazzling mix of instrumental greatness and deep melody. The solos are inspired and i never tire of being inspired by them. Their new album Inhuman Rampage is superb as well, but this one kicked it all off for me. Do yourself a favour and check them out.

Truly awesome - 6 starsThe music on this cd is absolutely brilliant. From the opening bars I was instantly hooked and remained so to the final closing note.
br /I have been listening to rock music for over 40 years, (yes, I'm old), and Dragonforce are the best band I've heard in the last 20 years.
br /Taking into consideration the fact that the general level of rock musicianship today is of a very high standard, the musicianship on this cd is truly outstanding. The vocals are excellent, powerful, melodic and perfectly suited to the style of music. The Drumming is truly awesome, (how on earth does he keep up this pace???), the keyboard playing is excellent and the guitars just have to be heard to be believed.
br /Herman and Sam are the best twin guitar duo since Brian Scott of Thin Lizzy, only 100 times faster, technically more proficient and far superior.
br /There are many speed metal bands around, the difference here is that Dragonforce are very melodic, and for those of us who appreceiate some melody in our music instead of drop-D death riffs and monotonous screaming vocals, the music here is a most welcome and very refreshing change to the boring speed metal currently around.
br /Dragonforce are a very melodic speed metal band. if you've not heard them yet then my advice is to buy or borrow a cd of theirs and hear them for yourself. I'll be surprised if you're not impressed, (if not blown away) by what you hear.
br /The best way I can describe them is to take Iron Maiden, Rainbow and Thin Lizzy, mix them together and speed the whole thing up (a lot).
br /Believe me, this band are going to be huge.
br /I'm a guitarist of many years (36) and have heard the very best of just about every known style, yet I was left in awe of the truly breathtaking guitar playing when I first heard this superb band.
br /If you like fast, melodic, kick-ass rock with awesome guitars and great musicianship, then treat yourself to this cd NOW!
br /Taking into account that most speed metal bands currently around are from the USA, a note to all you Americans out there:-
br /Dragonforce are a BRITISH band, and this is how we do it across the pond!!!
br /Thanks Herman Co for putting us back on top.
