This film is quite a good one considering it keeps you busy reading subtitles. I like the genre in general and bought this film on the basis of front and back cover. If you dont mind subtitles then this film will definately have something for you.
It starts of with a competion between a shaolin monk and a taoist Tai chi master. The shaolin win the tournament and get to be gaurdians of a pot of gold which everyone wants! What a surprise. After a few attempts its stolen during a second contest and a disciple of each faction is sent to recover the pot.
There are actually two stories going on in the film and the second is of a young man who is taken in to the temple after trying to mug a shaolin monk. This is the main hero altough you have the Tai Chi disciple as well. This is obviously the guy who goes after the pot and he has the usuall background of father been killed and the hard life stuff.
The plot of the film is quite good with a bit of humour at times like when the two hero's end up in a brothel and the drunken training in shaolin temple are fantastic. This is a great film that doesn't start of that brilliantly but does develop as you watch it. There are a lot of twists and turns in the story and surprisingly you dont see some of them coming (unusual for a kung fu movie).
The fight scenes are very good with a lot of variations so its not like watching the same thing again. The final battle against the mantis master is bone crunching with a drunken twist.
Overall i think this is a very good film.
