...buy the complete full bouquet 8 dvd's region 1. it has all episodes plus extras. Such a shame that is is a genuine British treasure but relased in a pedestrian manner. Read my review in amazon.com
There can be little doubt that Keeping Up Appearances is a comedy series for the ages, fully deserving of a DVD release. However, the BBC releases pale in comparison to the superior Region 1 American releases, which contain unreleased episodes from Series 3 and 4, as well as outtakes. pSeries 5 of this classic comedy has also been released in its entirity on DVD in the States, along with the Christmas specials that have never seen the light of day here.pThe BBC releases of this series are certainly adequate for the casual fan, but true admirers will want to go the extra mile and purchase the Region 1 releases.
If I could give this series zero stars I would. It is simply formula comedy of the worst type. The characters are generally stereotyped and one dimensional. I cringe when I think of this series.brAdd wooden stereotypical references to sex, social climbing and prejudice and build it around 'Terry and June' scripts and lo and behold we have this programme. I hesitate to call it comedy. As a DVD it portaits the series wonderfully - but it's mutton dressed as lamb. If you love the series you will love the DVD. If you've never seen the series then 'caveat emptor' - see a programme before you buy it doesn't matter which one - they never get better or worse.
I have never seen the third and forth series, but I cannot wait. In Poland we had some parts of the serial broadcast on TV under the title "What people will say". I dare to say that Patricia is the best comedian I ever saw. She is a cure for bad mood after stressful day. My 8-year old daughter does not understand English (she is learning) but she bursts with laughter whenever she watches the film. Patricia embodies all things understood as funny.
