This is funking awful
To say this is awful is to elevate it to a level completely unwarranted. This is Jonny 'Guitar' Watson at his funkin' worst. I bought this collection thinking that I was getting vintage blues. Instead, what I got was a collection of songs by a man cashing in on the funk bandwagon.pThere are glimmers of his former glory, and even some outstanding funk numbers - most notably 'Baby Face (She Said Do Do Do Do)' - but otherwise this collection is for funk purists only and even then it could be condensed into one CD instead of the rather drawn out three CD version on offer.pI might be being a bit harsh as the man is know for his funk work as well as his blues roots, but I cannot help the feeling that this is the work of a man cashing in on his name and funk in general, and the truly dreadful (funk) reworking of arguably his most famous song, 'Gangster of Love', does nothing to dissuade me from this opinion.pIf you are a huge funk fan this may be worth a look, but if you are hoping for some classic blues stay well away.
