What a first time findWow. what a hit, as a previous reviewer said this is ok if you are trying him for the first time. This guy has that smooth old style country voice with just enough of a new edge to make him contemperary and sexy!!!!
br / If you have never heard of him or not to sure think of a cross between Tim McGraw and Garth Brooks. This album has a great mix of smooch alongs, soulful, thoughprovoking and just foot tapping greatness.

Summary of his career up to 2003Alan Jackson has fans in the UK (I am one of them) but his fan base is not that large especially in comparison with America. I am assuming that this compilation signals a change in policy and that this album was marketed more widely. If that were so, it would make sense. You can't suddenly start giving a big promotional push to a second volume of greatest hits by an artist who has never had a hit single (or if he has, it has escaped my notice). Obviously, his existing fans won't buy this but it might win him a lot of new fans. pAlan's brand of traditional country, with just enough of a contemporary edge to appeal to a modern generation, provides a contrast with the prevailing pop country normally recorded by Nashville's major label singers. This collection contains twenty of his best songs from his career up to 2003 and therefore is the first compilation of his music combining early classics like Don't rock the jukebox, Chattahoochee and Gone country with more recent classics like Little bitty and Where were you when the world stopped turning. pMany of the songs are upbeat, happy songs but I was drawn to his music originally by Here in the real world, a sad song that Alan delivers superbly, which was the title track of his debut album. Alan writes or co-writes most of his own material, but has also demonstrated his brilliance with covers. On this collection, you will find covers of Tall tall trees (George Jones), It must be love (Don Williams), Pop a top (Jim Ed Brown) and Who's cheating who (Charly McClain).br brIf you are new to Alan's music and don't want to buy two greatest hits albums, this will provide an ideal introduction to his music. Of course, some great songs were left out but the most important songs of his career to 2003 are all here. If you already have one of the earlier hits collections, don't buy this - buy the other hit collection instead. Then you'll have all the tracks here and all his other classic songs from the period covered.

The Best Of The Greatest HitsThis cd would be so much better if it weren't for the fact every song on it was on one of the two Greatest Hits albums that Alan Jackson already has out - and this "Very Best Of" even has the nerve to use an image from the Greatest Hits II cd as its front cover!!brI'm not knocking his music, he is great, but to expect anyone to buy this less than a year after the Greatest Hits II was released is a rip off

The Best Of Alan Jackson - perhaps?Should you be an established fan of Alans' work or a relative newcomer to this genre, there is surely something here for all to enjoy. 'Gone Country' opens the album, anthemic in the way it demands that you give it your closest attention and once hooked you are propelled into 'Drive', a bittersweet song of close relationships between a father and his son. 'Where were you (When The World Stopped Turning) is perhaps the most poignant reminder of that fateful day in New York. For me, Jackson words will haunt many as those images surely will. The album portrays all aspects of his fine works, you cannot fail to be 'grabbed' by the energetic 'Chattahoochee' with perhaps some of the finest 'new' country instrumentation you are likely to hear - it's damn good to dance to, also! In brief, the album is surely a showcase of an immense and sincere talent and despite being largely a 'compilation' it should become a classic.
