Subtitles
Great story which I have seen on VHS. DVD copy had poor image quality and the subtitles were not in sync with the video, on too many occasions.

Subtitles
The epic Mahabharat series was broadcast here in the UK on BBC2 in the early 90s; Saturday afternoons if I remember correctly and I was captivated by the story, the costumes and of course the special effects! br / br /It's great to have the complete series released on DVD, I also own the 15 disc abridged version, but the full series is a must. Only problem with this release is the subtitle issue pointed out by others. There are too many instances where the English subtitles don't effectively translate the original Hindi. The worst thing is the out of sync subtitles - why was no one able to rectify this issue before the release? br / br /Another thing I was really looking forward to when I bought this set was the special features and behind the scenes stuff. Although it's insightful it would've been good if these features could be subtitled too. So unless you speak Hindi you won't get much out of it. Having said that there are a few instances where cast and production team talk in English. br / br / br / br /

Great series, absolutely woeful subtitles
Looking to increase my Hindi proficiency, I looked forward to finally seeing the famed Mahabharat series: I didn't have great expectations of special effects or production values, which while quietly amusing at times, make the series more endearing than anything. That said, the subtitles are among the worst I have ever seen: things left untranslated [which often happens in subtitles, admitted] but whole sentences are left out. When the subtitles do appear, they are out of sync to the extent that the scene has changed, and the subtitles for the last scene finally show up. How could Arrow have thought this was anywhere near acceptable? Bottom line: a great series if you speak Hindi, but don't expect to be able to follow the story relying on the "subtitles". br / br /

Appallingly poor picture quality but wonderful story
The series is a mixed bag. Sadly, the picture quality is so poor as to make it highly questionable for this product to be offered commercially. The images are very unclear. Moreover, the acting is stilted, the costumes are unrealistic and the special effects are exceptionally limited. I believe the special effects and costumes in the Monthy Python tv series were better - and they were laughingly bad. I wonder why this is so. Perhaps the production technology in Bollywood in 1980s was simply several decades behind equivalent production quality in Hollywood? Doubtless there were far less funds. On the positive side, this rendition gives a good idea about the story line of this ancient epic. It explains a virtuous way of life that has long since vanished from the face of the world. The educational side of it means this product still may have real value for those looking for more honesty, discipline and selflessness in their lives.

Excellent compilation
An excellently compiled series. this contains all the complete 94 episodes as aired on TV with a running time of over 70 hours. contains 'the making of the mahabharat' as a special feature which is a must watch. sound quality and audio quality is amazing. good work.
