Once is all you need!
br /Being a long time Metal fan, i researched NIGHTWISH on 'the net' discovered a very special unique experience!, which totally surprised blew me away!. br /A band from Finland playing bombastic,symphonic Metal Rock combined with a classical /operatic seprano Tarja Turunen, a lady with an incredibly talented trained voice,whom has the skill character to sing perform within the amazing arrangement songwriting ability of Toumas Holopainen, the Keyboardist band leader. All the band member's in fact are superb individual musician's in their own field, Empuu Vuorinen (guitar),Marco Hietala(Bass/Vocals) Jukka Nevalainen (drums). br /ONCE is the peak moment in their nine year period with Tarja( who was dismissed from the band after a final concert in Finland touring with this album worldwide for 18 months, albeit for non musical reasons). br /A powerful dynamic mixture of Metal,fused with Tarja's voice orhestral addition.The standard release contains 11 tracks,i recommend buying the platinum edition release,which has two extra songs a video promo of 'NEMO', one of their finest tracks.Opening track-Dark Chest Of Wonders, br /Planet Hell, Romanticide Wish I Had An Angel rock like hell! The Siren with it's mystic flavour Dead Gardens,grabs hold of your attention with variation melodic sequences plus the beautifully sang ballad solo by Tarja 'Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan' in her native Finnish. br /Best tracks for me are-Dark Chest Of Wonders, Plnet Hell Nemo. But there is one very special 10 minute epic track i've left till last! 'Ghost Love Score', to put this piece of music into words is difficult!,simply unbelievable!! is all i can comment!, one of the most astonishing musical experiences of my 52 years!,i NEVER tire of hearing it!. br /But the album ,if it moves you like myself, then you MUST! buy the DVD 'End Of An Era'in which nearly all of this album is performed beyond all your possible expectations!,a gig that completely blows you away, UNBELIEVABLE!!!!, Tarja's last with the band, god bless her, they were never the same again.

Believe the Hype, only 2 words for this : Epic Masterpiece! ! ! !
Well you know when you read reviews off some album, and the reviews are raving about the album then you buy and when you listen you think "What's so great about it?", well this album lives up to that hype. Every song on this album is amazing and with vocalist Tarja and her amazing opera vocals it's just so much better and makes it more epic and beautiful and heavy at the same time. The guitarist is excellent playing some awesome heavy riffs, and brilliant solos. The drumming is great aswell. Best tracks for me are Dark Chest Of Wonders, Wish I Had An Angel, Nemo Creek Mary's Blood. br / br /If you're looking for an album that's heavy yet melodic with Opera vocals and has an epic feel to it? Then this is a great buy for you.

Just behind Oceanborn -and the end of an era..
FANTASTIC ALBUM!!! Second only to Oceanborn and a genuine symphonic metal br /masterpiece with a REAL orchestra - Tarja goes out on a high! br /My favourite song has to be Ghost Love Score - now if you use You Tube Videos there is an awesome clip whereby a very cleverly edited montage of The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy from start to finish has been set to this amazing song. The quality is perfect and it looks like The Most Expensive Music Video Ever made. Nightwish with Tarja were made for this! br /If you like this there are other similiar clips too, Dimmu Borgir/Troy, Metallica/Saving Private Ryan, Metallica/Star Wars, Motorhead/Mad Max, br /Rammstein/Lord Of The Rings (specifically orcs,uruk hai,mordor) etc

Once and for all!
Quite simply one of the most amazing albums ever recorded. br /They entwine beauty with passionate aggression amidst a haunting backdrop of native american, eastern and sweeping gothic passages that would make andrew lloyd weber and danny elfman cower in fear. br /The experimental style and ambitious texture that Nightwish encompass makes our resident MUSE look like the tweenies. br /The riffs are simple but urgent and impressive. br /Tarja sings like an angel and has the power to lift your emotions and drop you again with one note. br /The lyrics are deep and poetic. br /BUY IT

I'm gobsmacked
listening to this as I write, the other reviews pretty much cover this, but I just had to write, how can such class go un noticed. Maybe it's better to keep this from the mainstream dross. This is too good in it's whole. I will be getting more of their stuff, emmotional, epic, awesome beyond words, maybe just maybe better than Within Temptation. Just got into these guy's as well, it's close. Ahh what the hell I'll listen to that next and enjoy. Everyone who pretends to be a music fan should be made/ forced to listen to this... nuff said. Top class!!!!
