The Eye of Every Storm...
Neurosis are one of the most reveared, respected and most influential metal bands that have ever existed in heavy music for many reasons. They pioneered the addition of electronic elements within heavy music in the early Nineties, there is still no band who can come close to sounding like them and their progression from album to album has been a spectacle to behold. From the early hardcore of Pain Of Mind and Word As Law to the dense tribal sludge that was Enemy of the Sun and Through Silver In Blood to the softer more contemplative and textural Sun That Never Sets. br / br /The Eye Of Every Storm is obviously the next natural, logical progression from STNS, those who thought it wouldn't be are fools. Steve Von Till takes 80% of the vocal nowadays; his Tom Waits-esque gravelly voice compliments the softer tones moreso than Scott Kelly's harsh strained delivery. This is definately a quiter album than anything previous, it gives the band more room to experiment and breathe. There's even a completely electronics and vocal section in the title track, which is, in fact, one of the most memorable parts of the album; "Now oath breaker sinks loooooow!", you'll know it when you hear it! br / br /Whereas the heaviness of previous albums sometimes drowned out the atmosphere and simply bludgeoned, the softer moments exaggerate the slow pace and sombreness of the writing. br / br /By now you should know with any Neurosis album it takes quite a while for you to come away with anything; repeated listens are absolutely essential. The tracks are still lengthy; these are no interludes this time, just 8 massive tunes; the shortest a mere 5:20 and the longest a whopping 11:59. The entire thing is a harrowing listen; you really have to be in the mood for it, it drains you completely but it's ultimately rewarding. br / br /If you're just getting into Neurosis this may not be a good place to start, try Sun That Never Sets or Times Of Grace before this one then work your way backwards. If Neurosis are familiar to you already then theres no question about it; do not hesitate to buy this monster.

atmospheric to the extreme
neurosis have influenced so many, and while they could rest on their laurels for that they dont, they have changed their sound just a little here and may well influence countless others,of course its still neurosis, make no mistake on that, its just more laid back and dreamy than ever,it is still heavy, dear lord it can be so heavy but that isnt the norm here, there are big long build ups of dreamy soundscapes and beauty, and then the anger is released and just when we are clinging to our sofas the melody returns and hugs us like a big blanket, that is the secret of neurosis ,they offer us horror and heaven in the same song, the opener 'burn' takes us in and then spits us out and in the following 7 songs finishing off with 'I Can See You', we are treated to almost perfection in terms of heaviness and soothing sounds, its great,it isnt as sinsiter as their previous albums but it still offers something few bands could

Post Core magnificence
This album is a true landmark for Neurosis, building up on the progression shown since Times of Grace through to 2001's A Sun That Never Sets, this album melds complexity, minamilism, agression, melody, distortion and beauty into a perfect concotion. Utterly flawless, if you approach with an open mind.
