As an official product of a franchise, the 35-minute anime benefits from having the original actors voice the characters, including Vin Diesel as Riddick. This story opens with the new action hero and the two other survivors of iPitch Black/i already caught by a giant spaceship filled with dread. The sinewy leader has a unique--and creepy--jail for master villains and she has her sights set on Riddick. The film--indeed the series--is indebted to animator Peter Chung, who brings his techno style from his iAeon Flux/i series. His smooth animation for Riddick doesn't reinvent the character as much as give him a new, appealing fluidity. As anime goes, there's nothing really new here--plenty of action, cool killers, and dramatic spurts of blood--but it's a building block for how this genre might enliven movie series and sequels in the future. --iDoug Thomas/i
ok i was considering buying this for a long time but i just could not bring myself to buy a 30 minute long dvd for the price that was originally there now with the cut in price its well worth it, i mean 30 mins from an animation view takes a long time to make but it could of been alot deeper than it is, it does its job of bridging the gap between pitch black and chronicles but you cant help feel that it could of been deeper but as it goes its a very good 30 minutes plus extra features which are good, the animation i thought was very good apart from the fight scene at the end i dont know why they changed the style of animation. if youre a riddick fan you will enjoy this.
As an avid fan of all things 'Riddick' I looked forward to this title, although a little sketpical, would it detract from the 'Riddick' universe, would it be 'crap' and would it be just a cheap cashin like the Van Helsing cartoon and those terrible movie tie in video games. The answer is.............No!!!. This is a worthy release and not only adds to the universe but adds much more authenticity by having the voices of 'Jack', 'Imam' and Riddick himself all voiced by the original actors.br The storyline line is good, none of the actors have that 'here for the quick payday' drone to there voice and all in all its a faithfull Post Pitch Black/Pre Riddick full-in.br The only critism I will level at this is that at just over 30 minutes long its very short for a £11.00 purchase, and it would have been more appreciated had it been of the 60-90 minute variety. All in all if your a fan of Riddick.....BUY IT!, if not I doubt you'll be reading this review anyway!
