This album does take quite a while to grow on you, but when it does, you can fully appreciate the musical talents of exhibition. Perhaps more so than their notational talents, they also have an amazing talent for random rhythms. It's difficult to word, but easilly explained when heard.
But basically, they are very difficult to bop your head to, unless your used to strange bopping, where silences may come and the next beat may hit upon any up-and-coming quaver that the musicians feel like. Even after listening to that album a million times, I still don't know where the beats come in on some songs which leaves me in shire amazement at how difficult it must have been just to know where the beat comes in, let alone play an instrument at the same time.
This album is quite the masterpiece. It has a minimalist piece in it which lasts 9 minutes, which generally is the weaker track of the album (yet after a while of listening to it, even that grows on you. Especially the church organ solo at the end - chilling, spine-tingling and brewing with madness it is.)
Yet through their interesting way with music what is also very evident are the musician's minds themselves. They seem to be very honest with their music, which only leads ask to ask ourselves what the members of EGG where like. There is little doubt that they had very inquisitive minds, which is a rare thing to find among musicians.
Yet what is a sad fact is that no one seems to know about this band. Yet it is not sad for me, Oh no! I have been given the privilege to own this album, and as long as this condition shall hold, I shall feel special.
