The DVD has enjoyable bonus footage including an interview with Peter in which he discusses the songs he has chosen for the concert and also a look behind the scenes where he is in the rehearsal room, mingling with and introducing himself to the members of the orchestra ~ he can even be spotted at one point talking on his mobile ! (Either he was telling whoever it was to call back later or he was ordering pizza for everyone. I wonder which.?!)
The show itself is excellent. Each of the two halves opens with a medley of Peters' songs played by the 40 piece orchestra that is backing him. The sound is wonderful (try listening to it on a headset.) However, when he takes the stage for the first time I detect a few nerves there (not surprising, getting up to sing in front of a theatre full of people, even if he has had the odd year or two of experience .!) The content of the concert is a mixture of some of his solo songs and some Chicago songs.(How could he not.?!) He has also included a couple of duets, with Kim (who plays percussion in his mini band) taking the part of the original singers. One is a song called 'After All' (which he did with Cher) and Kim gives the most brilliant sound~a~like rendition of the opening of the song, momentarily threatening to steal Peter's thunder but he's having none of it.! ! A lot of the songs are given a whole new feel, having the orchestral backing rather than the more familiar stronger drum beat. The wonderful show is topped of at the end with the old Chicago song '25 or 6 to 4' (which allows the brass section of the orchestra to really come into it's own) and then finishing with the markedly contasting ballad 'Have You Ever Been In Love.?'
Brilliant stuff.! Enjoy! (If I had the time I would just sit and let this thing roll round again and again.!)
