not bad, bit dated
tried all the suites, not really found a suitable protection that didn't feel top heavy, maybe mcafee 2008, so wanted to try a basic antivirus. This seemed ok, speedy rotation of web pages and nice clean interface. But I was concerned how such old software copes with he modern internet perils. Not brilliant as it happens, nothing flagged up, found sever slow down so suspected something amiss? Just ran the windows live one care free scanner to see if anything obvious was lurking and low and behold some nasty red warning symbols appeared. Makes me wonder on the security if windows defender can pick up stuff. More than likely its just a little too dated now. Not really recommended for todays use. I think 2006 onwards fares better, will be trying 2006 version which looks like much better protection??

It Works
It Works perfectly as far as I can tell, I have had no problems with it and no regrets. Its sole problem is the fact that it takes too long to scan and in that time the computer is almost completely unable to do anything quickly

Great
Why Norton Antivirus rather than a freebie one Virus scanner?

When a previous subscription to NAV 2003 expired I thought I would try one of the many freeware virus scanners instead. I soon got my credit card out and went back to NAV for the following reasons:
- Norton is very unobtrusive; I found the free products had annoying splash screens and in some cases adverts. Norton has a quick message to say that the virus database has been updated and that is all you will notice on a day to day basis. Norton is quietly running in the background looking for new viruses in emails and in new files. The only time you know it is there is when it runs a scheduled scan
- Once installed, NAV keeps itself up to date, so you do not need to do anything else, just let it do its job. Most other antivirus apps keep themselves up to date, but I found NAV's 'quiet' approach very appealing
- The virus scans are fairly quick - I did not benchmark with other products but it 'seemed' quicker
- Product support; it is good to be able to know that support is out there if you need it
- Extra features such as a Microsoft Office plug in so it auto scans MSOffice documents as you open them, email scanning and Internet Worm detection. I did have to switch off the Worm Detector because it was causing alerts on Counter Strike:Source every time I connected to a server I had not connected to before.

In summary, everyone should use an Antivirus application, I use NAV and I would not use any other for my PC.

**Note** I have not experienced any of the install problems upgrading from NAV2003 so the score reflects my experiences of the product not its install program.

Very Nice Does the Job
I had no problems with this software at all it found loads of viruses that my shareware anti virus product didnt find and now my system is running nice and smoothly unlike before. The update process is simple enough, i just let it check for updates everyday. What more can you ask for!

Sadly, not good enough
I used to have Norton Antivirus 2004 which worked well and without interfering with any of my other programs. Unfortunately, when I upgraded to 2005 the problems started. It didn't recognise Outlook and it took me a long time (as a non-teccie) to sort it out so that I could again receive emails. The computer just hasn't been working well since I upgraded and I am now looking elsewhere for a better product.

Disappointing.. especially as Norton's help system is very user unfriendly.
