Past its best
I have used Norton Products for about 5 years, culminating in Systemworks 2006. Recently my computer has been getting slower and slower particularly on booting up. I was also constantly getting error messages from Windows saying there was an error in Norton Ghost. Today I bit the bullet and uninstalled the whole suite.

What an improvement. I am now using AVG (free) whilst I decide what to replace systemworks with. Be warned, as others have said Norton Products do seem to slow the system down and conflict with other software.

So use Systemworks if you must, it does work. But there is a price to pay beyond the purchase.

Good but there is better
Having systemworks installed on my computer & reading the above reviews stating that system mechanic found over a hundred viruses whilst Norton hadn't found any i was intreged. So i downloaded an evaluaion copy of system mechanic 5.5, uninstalled Norton, ran the virus scan from system mechanic & it found 80 viruses. On closer inspection & viewing the details of these viruses i found that these were the viruses that Norton had detected previous & were the quarintined files left over from the uninstalled systemorks. After using system mechanic & been a user of systemworks for 3 years i am converting to system mechanic as it has more features & does everything better than Norton for a similar price.

Essential software!!!!
I had been having a few problems with my PC, but this little package sorted out! It's so simple to use, and keeps my PC safe and free from junk. It's even twice as fast as it use to be!!

I've no idea how it works and don't really care. All I have to do is click a few buttons once a week, and it gives my PC a full service and valet. What more can a user ask for?

Not impressed ...
I agree with the other reviewer.I scanned my hard drive every week with Norton and it found no viruses. Iolo System Mechanic 5 found 141 viruses. I had a nagging pop up problem that Norton couldn't solve but Iolo found and got rid of it immediately. I'm currently running a trial version of Iolo and am so impressed that I intend purchasing it when the trial is over. I have uninstalled Norton because I don't need it anymore. Iolo System Mechanic 5 works fine for me.

Good product, not really as good as I expected...
I currently own Norton's System Works 2005.

It searches for any system ailments and will attempt to fix them. You can optimise your PC's hard-disk, and also clean system cache and junk files.

This is all well and good, but to a certain extent. It will not find every error, and sometimes optimisation won't really have any effect.

Other products such as Iolo's System Mechanic for example, found 210 errors in my System's Registry, these included: mis-matched keys, corrupted values ect., I quickly ran a scan on both, and whilst Iolo's System Mechanic found 210, Norton's SystemWorks said it was okay.

So I wasn't really impressed with that. However I did like the way Norton tackled most errors, and did purge a lot useless junk.

If you are new to computers, or want an easy newbie-friendly method, I would recommend this product. If you want the full thing done, go for Iolo's System Mechanic.
