YOU MUST LISTEN ESPECIALLY AT THESE PRICES. BRINGS A TEAR TO YOUR EYES. JAMES IS VERY GREAT FLAUTIST. HIGHLY REC.
When I saw the tracklisting on this CD (and by the way the running order is different to that currently shown here, and the Vivaldi piece is missing) I thought he's done all these before. Listening to it you get the same impression. But no, a check of his discography reveals that only one or two appeared on his previous albums with RCA, and only "Annie's Song" is on the "Very Best of..." collection. It's just the consumate ease with which the plays everything that makes it all sound familiar. Although most of these pieces were not written for flute they sound as though they could have been.
Assembled here are some of the world's most beautiful classical melodies, played in dreamy style by Galway and backed sympathetically by the London Symphony Orchestra. There is nothing remotely aggressive here, or, it has to be said, exciting; the re-recorded "Annie's Song", in andante moderato, is as fast as things get (and if you've seen the cheesey video on Classic FM-TV you'll get the gist). It's all so beautiful that it's a great cure for insomnia - first time I played it I didn't get beyond track two, and it has taken a fortnight to get through to the end!
