Could Be Improved...This is a pretty decent stab at a Xmas party album but suffers from the usual faults ie Because the record company behind it can't obtain permission to use all the tracks they might want, you end up with this compromise. Unfortunately in this instance they've made matters worse by substituting inferior versions of some tracks for the real thing(surely no one actually believes "Fairytale of Newyork" is enhanced by Ronan Keating's contributions).
There is a fairly simple solution:Buy this album AND "Chritmas Hits"(a three CD set that can be got pretty cheaply), although there is quite a bit of over-lap, the two discs together should provide all the material you need to put together a tailor-made great xmas party album.

Not the bestDon't get me wrong, the C.D is reasonable, it has all the classics you would expect. But there are so many re-makes, such as the Ronan Keating version of 'Fairytale in New York', which are just not as good as the originals. You will find all the Christmas songs you can think of on here, and I'm not going to patronise you by saying how good (or generally the opposite) they are, as you know them inside out. Just brace for disappointment if you're especting the original versions.

A thoughtful Christmas cd, not a fun oneI wanted a Christmas party album - and this didn't do it for me! I loved the old classics on cd 2 and really enoyed singing along but "Do they know it's Christmas?" isn't joyful and Paul McCartney's repetative lyrics "Simply having a wonderful Christmas time!" over and over bored me silly. And Chris de Burgh???? This album was somewhat reprieved by Slade, Wizzard and Elton John but if you're looking for a fun cd to get into the festive mood, buy another.

average album, big songs missingThe title suggests that this is truly the best Christmas album ever, but where's Wham, Shakin Stevens and Chris Rea? And why is Samantha Mumba covering the Mariah classic. Then there's fairytale of new york; a truly fantastic song so why is it sung here by Ronan Keating?! The album does have a number of great songs on, with many classics such as Slade, Wizzard and John Lennon, but i don't think it can be called the 'best Christmas album' as it has missed out so many great songs.
