Forget the JustificationJust buy it and get that head banging!
4th and 5th Form parties (not discos yet) would not have been the same without 'Hall of the Crimson King': And what respectable bedroom would not have THAT cover thrown casually in view?
Yes the music has help up against time - and the voice still cuts through to even today's youngsters (tried it out on a local victim - he went and downloaded the album straight away - didn't get the cover though).
And I love the packet - mini reproduction LP cover!

A true classic of rockI think everyone else has pretty much said it all here, so all I will do is add my recomendation. This is a stunning album, one of the true classics of rock. After all this time, the album still amazes and holds your attention (apart from Moonchild, which never did!). People will still be listening to this in another 30 years. Go for it!

Own up, does anybody actually dislike this ?It's one of the world's favorite prog albums for a reason. 'In The Court of the Crimson King,' is astounding. Some of the best material available on record. The mellow 'I Talk To The Wind,' is magic, and conjures up such incredible feeling with the music.
The contemplative 'Epitaph,' is nothing short of epic, with one of the worlds best choruses and utterly magnificent singing. The whole album is soaked in mellotron and this creates such a great atmosphere that its hard to stop listening to this album once you start.
Of course, two fan favorites (and with good reason) deserve to be mentioned. '21st Century Schizoid Man,' is undeniably brilliant, covered by many and hugely influential. 'In the Court of The Crimson King,' is dark, wonderful and the perfect end to the album.
If you don't own this, you should. Buy Now!

In the Court of the Crimson KingArguably, ITCOTCK is the album which both represented and brought the counter-cultural period to a dramatic close, and at the same time ushered-in the next period of rock. Forget the likes of Genesis, Gracious, and even Pink Floyd. This is where Prog-rock started. Besides being a milestone in rock history, the playing and musicianship on the album are staggering. Listen to Robert Fripp's guitar solo on Schizoid Man, Michael Giles's drumming throughout, Greg Lake's vocals and Ian McDonald's mellotron and flute work. The playing and stylistic references (jazz, rock, folk, avant-garde etc.) are in the service of great compositions (all by the band), conceptualised through the eye of Peter Sinfield who also wrote the lyrics. The memorable cover-art is by Barry Godber. It's probably safe to say that with reference to recent history (the Iraq war, spin etc.) this album is as applicable now as it was in 1969. Plus it's polysemantic. Read it how you will. A 5-star rating isn't good enough. It should be 25 +.
