A great movieI loved this film to bits and probably for the same reasons I love films like Delicatessen; a feast of humour and creativity situated in a very dark place. Worth all 5 Stars, if only the western studios had the balls to finance more projects like this one.

misery meets ichi the killer!weird, touching, poignant, graphic and squirm inducing... oh did i mention that it was weird?! a young man kidnaps a powerful member of society, believing him to be an alien and tortures him for information concerning the end of the world... which is due any day now. what starts out as a funny, bizarre movie soon turns into something utterly creepy. this film is like a rollercoaster ride- with twists and turns at evry corner. it has some amazing cgi effects and is brilliantly acted. the script is tight and the direction sublime. i have to admit to not really liking it for the first hour but then something happens and the film clicks into place, making some kind of sense of everything that has come before. i seriously recommend this film, especially to lovers of japanese cinema.

save the green planetWhat a fabulous film! Strange, sensitive and squirmingly funny. It covers every subject from the appropriateness of anal probes in interrogation, green activism, tragedy, true love and alien invasion.
I can't recommend this film highly enough, it has soul, heart and dare I say the reason missing from films such as 'Oldboy'.

UniqueBasic plot is slightly deranged young man, kidnaps and tortures CEO of company convinced he is an alien out to destroy the planet. The plot keeps you in suspense the whole way through as you try to figure out whether he's mad or telling the truth. I saw this film on screen as part of Tartan Extreme Season, it contrary to the above review bombed badly at the Korean box office as it was to much for critics and audiences to take in. This film manages to be everything at once, comedy, torture, a thriller, a dash of sci fi, spoof of many films (usual suspects, 2001), commentary on low moral standards of modern life, the good old rogue eccentric cop/young colege hotshot cop routine and odd characters (the anti hero's girlfriend is a dumpy tightrope walker). At the core of the film is that old question, of humanity and whether overall there is any good in the human race. This is what makes the film great, it has an emotional core and central themes that holds, (just) all the disparate elements together and it really stays with you. The director handles all these elements skillfully and none of these elements detract from each other . To say much more would give the game away. The acting by leads and the supporting cast is superb and the film is has some wonderful set pieces, in particular with a swarm of bees. This film is the most frantic energetic film I've seen in a long while, its almost like he's scared he'll never make another film again so he has to get all the thoughts he ever had into this one. This film really is not for everyone, but if you're looking for something truly unique, crammed with ideas and energy and sets your brain cells in motion, then give this a try as words are thoroughly insufficient to describe it. I am pleased to see it has the fantastic critical response it deserves in the US(though some are still puzzled) so check them out if I haven't manage to convince you.

Its a weird one...To start, i am one of the few people in the U.k. ever to see this film. Probably because there is only two copies on video in the u.k. alone, and my friend managed to get one through certain links in the industry.
It is, essentially, a thriller. But the interest of it is of one man's belief that he has to 'save the green planet' from aliens.
So, he picks out his target and he tortures them endlessly until they confees to being an alien. It's all very sick, but can sometimes be quite amusing (especially one scene when theprisonor is right below the madman and the inspector in a trap door) and the madman crushes his hand without the inspector knowing. This film was big in korea, but the makers did not have a big budget, so their are know big special effects, but it really doesn't need them, as the main story is the mind if the madman, and the buildup to when he cracks.
It actually manages to pull off a sense of twisted reality, and is, for the most part entertaining and gripping. However, the sci fi ending is not welcome, and detracts the whole feel of the movie and makes it feel a bit stupid.
However, if you are ever lucky enough to get your hands on a copy, its well worth a watch.
