Smallville gets dark
This season starts of fantastically, with Clark dosed on Red Kryptonite and living it up in Metroplis. With Chloe and Lana trying to bring him back, but with no use.

The entire season has a much darker tone, with Chloe and Lionel fighting one another, Clark's killer girl friend trying to kill Lana and Lionel's continuing research into Clark, and his quest for an answer to his pressing problem.

The "freak of the week" format contiues to decline, inf avour of longer stories and plots.

Sadly the evolution and interactions of characters seen in season 2 dissolves, with Chloe seemingly giving up on hopes of being with Clark, and Clark simmiliarily dismissing Lana in the second episode. This leaves (IMO) a lack of heart in this season, as the produceers seemto have decided it was better to explore the Luthors than anyone else.

However this really is the Luthor season, as Lex and Lionel come to blows, the first of which sees Lex commited to a mental assaylum, Lex's return, his father's imprisonment.

Overall this season is worth a good solid four, since the arks continue on and on, with the characters remaining motionless, but some episodes do shine out, such as Whisper (clark in glasses!), Perry and Truth (chloe forces people to tell the truth to her for once.)

Best season of the lot
This has got to be the best season of smallville out!
The first episode of this season is one of the best episodes the smallville saga has to offer. The fight between clark and his dad is legendary. It's cool to see clark's dad dealing with Jor El and what happens after as we only really ever see clark interacting with Jor El.
Every episode is entertaining, there's never a dull moment in smallville! The climax and cliffhanger at the end of the season is brilliant, making it well worth getting the next season as well.

The best season yet
This third season of Smallville is a lot better then either of the previous two. The season includes a number of plot arch threading through the season involving the past history of the Luthor family and Clarks attempts to escape his destiny. This season also includes some of the best episode of Smallville I have seen from any of the seasons I have seen including Relic, where Clark has flashbacks to Jor-Els time on Earth, and Memoria, a touching episode that reveals what really happened to Julian, younger brother of Lex Luthor. Smallville season three is probably one of the best that the show has to offer.

It only Gets Better!
Loved this season, only brought it because I missed the TV version and Channel 4 was taking its time to air Smallville again.
There was some awesome acting by Tom Welling in the telephone booth in 'Exile' - Tom made the stunning make-up look like it really hurt!
And the 'fight' between Lana and Chloe was worth rewinding to see over again in 'Delete'. It was hilarious seeing Lana attempt to knock seven bells out of Chloe till she decided that enough was enough and fought back!
There was just one real let-down with this season - I was very dissapointed with the way Sam III (Pete) left the series, since he was there from Season 1 and the only one knowing Clarke's secret. Will he ever get to come back? I hope so.

oh clark! oh lana! oh spare me!
Smallville was frustrating in it's first year, with the same kryptonite villain of the week plot so often. But it was compelling thanks to the acting of jon glover, alison mack, and the superb michael rosenbaum.

The second season developed into a very gripping drama that keep you hooked, eagerly wondering how things would develop.

The third season, the year that should have built on this, is a colossal disappointment. I suspect the writers have been making the show up as they go along, and they run into a few blind alleys as a result. Clark gets annoyed that lex kept secrets from him. Haven't he been doing the same?

And the clark lana romance becomes utterly tedious, as every week the episode ends with a heart to heart between the two, followed by a pull back shot and mournful music. And this happens every single week! Ditch her clark! Chloe's there for you!

The show is now in a corner writing wise. Have they got the guts to write themselves out of it? I really can't be bothered to find out
