Amazon.co.uk Review
Like a Hardy Boys mystery on steroids, National Treasure offers popcorn thrills and enough boyish charm to overcome its rampant silliness. Although it was roundly criticized as a poor man's rip-off of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Da Vinci Code, it's entertaining on its own ludicrous terms, and Nicolas Cage proves once again that one actor's infectious enthusiasm can compensate for a multitude of movie sins. The contrived plot involves Cage's present-day quest for the ancient treasure of the Knights Templar, kept secret through the ages by Freemasons past and present. Finding the treasure requires the theft of the Declaration of Independence (there are crucial treasure clues on the back, of course!), so you can add "caper comedy" to this Jerry Bruckheimer production's multi-genre appeal. Nobody will ever accuse director Jon Turtletaub of artistic ambition, but you've got to admit he serves up an enjoyable dose of PG-rated entertainment, full of musty clues, skeletons, deep tunnels, and harmless adventure in the old-school tradition. It's a load of hokum, but it's fun hokum, and that makes all the difference. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

Synopsis
American history gets a cool make-over in this Jerry Bruckheimer-produced comedic action thriller. Nicholas Cage plays Ben Gates, the descendent of an early American patriot who has left him information relating to a vast treasure, hidden during the Revolutionary War by the Freemasons. A clue at the north pole sets things in motion, and Ben must use his formidable cryptography skills to decipher puzzles hidden in the most unlikely places--one appears on the dollar bill, and another is on the back of the U.S. constitution. Ben's unscrupulous former partner (Sean Bean) and his gang of thugs are also after the treasure for selfish, evil purposes. A plot to steal the constitution sets off a 13-colony-wide chase with all the trimmings: cops going after the wrong man, the rescue of a cute female cryptographer (Diane Kruger) who tags along for the ride, and Jon Voight answering the door in the middle of the night as Ben's disapproving father. High-speed editing and a clever script make this an enjoyable history lesson, with Cage's character masquerading as his own versions of Sherlock Holmes, Indiana Jones, and an over-caffeinated Washington D.C. tour guide. He and Kruger demonstrate some fine romantic chemistry, and Justin Bartha gets off some legitimately funny lines as Ben's long-suffering sidekick. Last but not least, Harvey Keitel makes a very cool FBI chief.

Raiders of the Lost Masons
Second time watched and I got more out of it this time.

Lots of action, lots of clever effects, clever plot worth the rental

Nice to see Sean Bean as a baddy for once

Looking forward to Treasure II

Indi is back (without the grey hair)
Got to say I really enjoyed this movie.

The acting, story line and settings were all of a high quality (which is the norm for Nicolas Cage movie). Unlike some movies you didn't require an indepth knowledge of history, so you could sit back and enjoy the action.

Overall and easy and enjoyable movie

Enjoyable to Watch
I am a kind of person who has such a thirst for knowledge (in all branches) and discoveries, even for an adventure. And, this movie is an adventure and quite enjoyable to watch.

I have read a great deal on Masonic history as well the American history. And, there are bits and pieces of histories into this movie, but one cannot get the full understanding or knowledge of histories from watching this movie.

However, I found this movie to have a stretchy plot to which is not new, as it is typical. One would have to keep in mind that this is one of the Disney films, so this movie is suitable for kids as well enjoyable for adults. And, this film is more close to the line of the films, "The Da Vinci Code" and "Pirates of the Caribbean," or so I think.

Nevertheless, this film is fun to watch.

A modern Indiana
As a child I loved the Indiana Jones films and watching this film brought a wave of nostalgia over me - in fact I then ordered the Indiana Jones Trilogy!
This is a great film for all the family. No violence or bad language and full of adventure, conspiracy, action and humour. All our family enjoyed it and we range from 5-37!
Nicholas Cage was believable as the son in a family who have been ridiculed for their belief in a treasure dating back to the Declaration of Independence. His mission in life is to find the treasure and prove everyone wrong. Will he succeed? Watch and find out!
I can't wait to watch National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets.
