Excellent little performer.
This camera is an excellent performer, all you have to do is add the following :
1. Use 2500 mAh (or higher) rechargeable batteries which massively improve battery life. Normal alkaline batteries should not be recommended for digital cameras unless in an emergency.
2. Buy a decent SD card with atleast 2GB..you can find them on Amazon at low prices.These will allow approx 1000 pics on a decent setting or approx 1 hour video ( with sound )record time.
The camera is very simple to use ( go on..read the manual ) & surprisingly robust. Colour saturation is excellent & the controls are very simple.
The only moans are slow ( & I mean slow ) flash recharge times, sometimes approx. 10 seconds & poor zoom quality in video mode ( don't bother).
If you are mainly shooting outside, this is the camera for point & shooters & an excellent back up for the more experienced.
After 2 years of heavy use it hasn't let us down once, a wonderful piece of kit.

Nikon Coolpix 5600 Digital Camera
Screen failed after 3 months careful useage.
The camera was not dropped or misused in any way.
This is not acceptable in a prestige brand camera.

Nikon Coolpix 5600 - Not recommended.
I bought this camera on the basis that it was a good buy for the number of features and I presumed Nikon to be a reliable make. I am extremely unhappy about the reliability and general functioning of the camera. Initially it was quite slow in taking pictures - a massive delay between taking shots. The flash wants to fire even on the brightest day and the delay is about 3 minutes whenever the flash is used automatically. This makes the camera rendered completely useless for taking general pictures for example of my young children - when we are on holiday or for Birthdays etc you simply cannot wait for 3 minutes before re-taking a picture. The scene modes are generally quite user friendly and provide a good range however it constantly blurrs pictures even when held completely still(on many of the settings). It is not a practical camera in any sense for general family use and certainly not in the light of the fact that it has now broken completely. It takes only one picture at a time when switched on and all the settings are faulty.

nikon 5600 one year on
Having used this camera for about one year I have mixwd feelings about it.As a point and shoot it can take wonderfull pictures in daylight.Indoors you must keep within 10 feet of your flash subject to avoid a very grainy picture.The use of white balance control certainly tidies up you images.On balance as a take anywhere camera and allowing for it's flash limitations it is highly reccomended.At its' current price it would be daft to ignore it

good entry level camera
Coolpix 5600 is a very good entry level
'camera makers' camera from Nikon.
Easy to use and gives good if slightly
technicolour images with satisfactory resolution
from nice lens.
Feels slightly too small and compact in my hands
but build quality is fine.
Takes rather a long time to recharge flash after
each shot .
Has lots of preset modes and image adjustments.
A fine snapshot camera but for more creative work,
a SLR type digital camera is a better long term buy.
