Product Description
10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM lens allows enjoyment of super wide-angle photography and it is a very powerful tool for indoor shooting and landscape photography with APS-C size image sensors of digital SLR cameras. Wide angle of view (102.4 ° at 10mm and 63.8 ° at 20mm) offers the photographer greater freedom of expression. Three SLD glass elements are employed for effective compensation of color aberration, which is a common problem with super-wide angle lenses. One piece of glass mold and two hybrid aspherical lenses, offer excellent correction for distortion, as well as all types of aberration. This lens is equipped with an inner focusing system, and the models which are equipped with HSM system provide quiet, high speed autofocus shooting and also offer full time manual focusing. It has a minimum focusing distance of 24cm (9.4») at all focal lengths. The non-rotating lens barrel perfectly suits the petal shaped lens hood. A circular polarizing filter can also be used conveniently.

Very Good Lens
I have had the lens for a couple of months and yet to find a problem with it. It is durable, solid and gets loads of detail for your shots.

I would recommend buying a decent filter to use with it.

Dramatic Photos From An Unusual Perspective
I purchased this lens as I was selling my house and wanted to add depth and scale to the photos having seen some of the pathetic attempts from so called photographers that some agents use. The estate agents were so impressed with the pictures that they only used the ones that I took (Most at 10mm). Needless to say the house sold after many viewings. You can stand in the corner of the room and you can see everything wall to wall. With a wide aperture the pictures are very slightly soft but still usable. Stop down one stop for great sharpness. Handheld indoor shots are no problems at slow shutter speeds at 10mm. Highly recommended.

Wide Wide WOW!

An outstanding lens for the price. I use it on both a Nikon D50 and Nikon D200 and the results are magnificent. However, if you're a beginner photographer who wants to get out into the big `wide' world, there's a temptation to simply grab the widest lens you can find. But, these lenses do require some understanding. For example, there will be a degree of barrel distortion (the fish-eye-ing effect) at some focal lengths (this can be minimised with practice on different apertures etc). Therefore, if you like to shoot a lot of architecture, it's possible that you'll end up with slightly bendy buildings! Notwithstanding that, this lens doesn't suffer from any more barrel distortion than any other WA lens I've ever used and besides, you can get specialist software to correct such distortion, either as a cheap standalone program, or even as a Photoshop plug-in.

Also, there is a degree of vignetting (darkening of the edges) at the wider end of the focal length, but this can be overcome with either some fairly basic post-capture processing; or you can jockey around with the aperture / shutter speed / ISO to achieve the best possible results (you'll still get a degree of vignetting, but you can minimise it).

Sigma's HSM focussing system is pretty neat - in the absence of any internal gearing, it works using ultrasonic waves, which not being of a technical mind, I can't explain - all I know is that the focussing is precise, super-quick and super-quiet.

The only real (minor) negatives I can find here is that the fixtures and fittings are a bit fiddly - the lens cap is fiddly, the lens hood requires some dexterity to fit and so does the barrel cover. Oh, and when you use it indoors with an internal flash, you get a large inverted U shadow on the bottom of the frame, which is the shadow cast by the lens - use a speedlight to eradicate this.

Tamron's 12-24mm is worth looking at too, but I'm a big Sigma fan and this is the 5th of the manufacturer's lenses I have. The only real difficulty I have with this lens is keeping myself out of the shot - when you shoot a portrait scene, you'll sometimes inadvertently get your feet in shot!

Maybe this lens isn't of the same build quality as the equivalent Nikon lens (12-24mm), but it's built like a Sherman tank (with weight to match) and besides, the difference in picture quality is so minimal compared with the nearly double price of the Nikon that you won't (or shouldn't) think twice. Can't really fault it. Five Stars!

Really great lens
This is a really fun lens. At 10mm, it's quite shocking what gets included in the frame. In fact, I rarely use the zoom, keeping it at 10mm all the time.

It works well indoors, but expect some distortion around the edges. Any super wide angle is going to give you this.

It's pretty good value for money when you compare it with the Nikkor 12-24mm lens, which is about twice the price.

Brilliant lense
This is simply an excellent lens, I use it frequently and it allows me to take super wide angle shots. The HSM doesn't hunt and is super quick for focusing. Distortion is to be expected particuarly at the short end but its hard to fault such an excellent lens. The only down side is the paucity of the cap.
