Amazon.co.uk ReviewTwo years on from his pledge to get rich or die trying, New York's Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson is turning his guns on the opposition. Barely ten seconds into
The Massacre, the first innocent – a young woman opening her Valentine's present, no less – is dispatched in a hail of gunfire, and from there on in, the carnage seldom lets up. "Piggy Bank" sees him tossing insults at Jadakiss, Ja Rule, Nas, Fat Joe, and Kelis in the verses, and counting his big piles of money in the chorus, while "Gatman and Robbin" – featuring vocals and production from Eminem – paints the pair as gun-toting supergangstas with bulletproof vests and an all-for-one-and-one-for-all attitude to beef.
And when there's not violence, there is sex. The single, "Candy Shop", debuts new G-Unit singer Olivia, who gives 50 the opportunity to test out some of his best double entendres: "I'll melt in your mouth, girl, not in your hand." There's not a track here with the cross-over capacity of "In Da Club", and at 21 tracks long, it would be disingenuous to claim The Massacre is wholly without filler. But the beats are tight, and 50's still got one of the most confident styles in the game: it would be absurd to suggest The Massacre was going to be anything other than huge. --Louis Pattison

OverkillThe two best tracks on the record are also the last two tracks on the record, "I Don't Need 'Em" and "Love It Or Hate It (Remix)". The former jacks its beat from Ghostface's "Metal Lungies" and the second is a remix of a track from The Game's The Documentary. This would be a really bad thing for an album that clocks in at just under 78mins if these two tracks weren't so tight. Also, these two tracks do not carry the album as there are hits galore littered across the album. "Disco Inferno" and "Candy Shop" are hits. "Ski Mask Way" are "Gunz Come Out" are underground classics and essential parts to any mixtape worth spending your hard earned $5 on. "Piggy Bank" is the necessary diss track that has everyone holding their breathe waiting for what's going to happen next. "Just A Lil' Bit", "Outta Control", "Position Of Power" are all waiting in the wings to explode onto the charts.
The problem with the album is that its too long, too many tracks & too much 50 cent. If I could use one word to describe The Massacre it would be overkill. The tracks are overproduced, the lyrics are repetitive and the delivery gets tired after 21 tracks. Even when 50 does get clever with his wordplay like on "A Baltimore Love Thing" its too little too late. I usually hate interludes but this album could have used more breaks from 50's monotonous flow. I usually hate albums with too many guests but they could have been useful here. Track for track this is not a bad album at all but it needs to be taken in doses to be appreciated. I can compare this album to Encore which was also loaded with great tracks ("Encore", "Mockingbird", "Toy Soldiers", "Mosh", "Rain Man") but was not a great album compared to the previous Slim Shady releases. The Massacre is unlike The Documentary, Welcome to Cashville and The Hunger For More which played like albums whether you liked them or not.
I'm sure that over time this album will grow on me like the first one did but the first impression is that 50 could have done much better.

Good BuyWhen i first bought this album i thought this would be similar to the first, an absolute classic with mostly Dre beats. When i first bought it, it wasn't what i expected at all, i thought it was really bad actually.
But after i got over my first impression, this album really grows on you and is actually really great. Outta Control is probably the best song (Dr Dre club beat, not the awful Mobb Deep remix they released afterwards). Also think that his song with Eminem is a lot better and more catchy than his previous, Patiently Waiting.
Other songs that stand out are I'm Supposed to Die Tonight which has a great beat and is a classic song in my opinion. Also love Get in my Car, another Dre beat; Position of Power, which is more of his gangster side; Disco inferno, another club beat; Piggy Bank, dissing Jadakiss, Fat Joe and Nas on this one and has a catchy hook.
The song with Jamie Foxx is laid back, as 50 cent raps about the ladies. Ryder Music, Baltimore Love Thing and Ski Mask way are all chilled out which are different to 50 cent's usual style but still good songs after listening to them closely.
Songs which didn't really impress me would be In My Hood, This is 50, I Don't Need em and God Gave me Style. The others were released by 50 cent (Just a Lil' Bit and Candy Shop) and are both pretty good but outplayed for me.

Naff
Dull, unoriginal, uninspiring and down right predictable are the words that spring to mind after listening to this
appalling record.
His first album, for what it was, was pretty good to be fair, but this album is very, very poor. About 95% of the album
bores on and on about guns. The rest of the album seems to be aimed at affronting women as much as is physically possible.
It's the thoughtless, simple, run-of-the-mill sort of music that Hip-hop has all to quickly become. Every song seems to begin and/or end with the sound of a gun shot, which becomes
rather tedious after about two listens.
If you want my opinion, avoid this album and try an artist such
as Kanye West who uses real issues and aptitude to create music.
Maybe it's just me, but 50 Cent has rapidly become dull and conventional.
So long 'Fiddy'

Not his best50 cent has been one of the most controverstial and important artists in hip hop history. This was his second album and by far his worst. Pointless tracks like "I Dont Need You" are added and decrease the album's quality. Candy Shop, Outta Control and My Toy Soldiers are by far the best tracks with slick and cool beats. 50's worst but still not awful.

I've had enough...This guy has got to have broken a record for; the worst MC ever to gain as much hype and money in the history of commercial hiphop. Personally, I just cant take it anymore, the way that rappers like him are making this genre (hiphop) an embarassing one to say you love and involve your life in. Don't you see, he even said himself he just wants to keep earning money, and get richer and richer...and its exactly people who like this album that are making his unworthy ambition come true. Awful beats, lyrics with no substance (which perpetuate this idea of rap being about guns, homies, girls and all of the other f'in stereotypes) and his flow? doesnt even exist anymore...he just drones on as though he has lost the grasp on the idea that he is meant to be an artist/MC and all essence of what is what that got him noticed in the first place. Also, alot of these people who say this album is good and so forth are NOT HIP HOP fans, so dont say you are, and if you think you are you need to seriously re-consider your taste as it is just becoming a joke now. Most of the time, it's people who are into other styles of music who want to cross over, just to say that they are into this hiphop stuff, and so they can have some generic music to "dance" to at a club or a party..which is fine but it just supports this idea that hiphop (in the not-knowing public's eye) is just a joke of a genre and requires no real talent to get into.
Now yes, I am mainly a fan of early, mid-90's, UK and underground Hiphop...but I am still into some commerical hiphop so don't think im being biased...but this it's just ridiculous now. Though, sooner or later the music side to 50 cent's career will fade into the darkness and aspects like clothing lines, sex toys and whatever stupid ideas he comes up with will take over and make him into even more of a success with his money.
Now, buy this album at all means to play at a party, use as background music or even just to demonstrate how much hiphop music nowadays is exploited by many but understood by few (to quote j-live)...but do not buy it intending to use it as proof that you are a hiphop fan or that you are into different styles of music as this is NOT MUSIC.
aaaa, now that I have got that off my chest...I hope you enjoy this album
